WE LOVE… ❤️ this new mag of psychedelic art and literature, pulling the form out of its sixties bubble and recontextualising it for our times

Themed ‘Dying’, this first issue treats us to pieces inspired by the infinitude of grief, the obliteration of the self through s*x and childbirth, the weirdness of aging, the horrors of life in Gaza and Ukraine, and more. And just as the art and literature is recontextualised for now, so the visual representation of psychedelia is reassessed. Two of our favourite editorial designers, and , have been enlisted to imagine what psychedelic design might mean in 2025

WE LOVE… ❤️ The second issue of Finnish mag . Each issue focuses on a different minority and marginalised group in Finland, handing editorial control to a member of the community. This second issue features the country’s Somali population
🇫🇮🇸🇴

The result is a unique portrayal of a community, helping reshape perceptions and building bridges between the minority and majority communities

WE LOVE… ❤️ The fourth issue of , another collection of art collected by founder Joe Richards over the past year

The art flows through the pages without interruption or caption and as ever the design detailing changes slightly; this time an open binding and silver page edges add to the lushness of the volume. It’s a particularly strong issue of the limited edition mag

Artists represented include Anselm Keifer, Joy Julius, Yoko Ono and Martin Margiela. Margiela is also interviewed in the issue, as is trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort and cover artist Sun Yitian.

‘You can do beautiful things with digital print, but its uniformity makes me sad. If digital print is cinema, riso is theatre. Every page that shoots out of the machine has unique imperfections and textural changes that ensure no two copies are the same. So in that sense it echoes much of the content—embracing our flaws and imperfections’

FIELD TRIP! It’s always a pleasure to welcome a student cohort to the shop for our regular talk and q&a session, but this lovely group were especially engaged and had multiple, detailed questions about the magazines we celebrate

Thank you to the students from MA Fashion Journalism and Content Creation, and to tutor Andrew Tucker for bringing them along

Good luck with your final presentations!

WE LOVE… ❤️ The different ways presents their name on their covers. The star of each cover is invited to handwrite the magazine’s name, which appears alongside/as part of their portrait

Read an interview with CD on the magCulture Journal (search Port); and congratulations to the entire team for having the boldness to try this cover idea, for which they won a Yellow Pencil award last week

WE LOVE… ❤️ the third issue of , fresh in the shop this week. This new monthly presents six pieces of writing-fiction and poetry-in an unassuming but neat small format that includes a wraparound cover with a photograph of all contributors that is building up issue by issue, and an editors letter. This time around, this note, which previously drew parallels between the zine’s structure and spirituality, now welcomes you with a short story that sets the emotional tone for the issue

You can read an interview with founding editor on the Journal, via bio 🔝

Available to buy in shop and online; we also have copies of issue two in stock

As Essie four of his mag appears, he explains that, ‘Chutney was born out of a disillusionment with mainstream (Western) media and its representation of communities of the Global Majority, a deeply rooted systematic issue that is only worsening. With each issue, I continue to learn from both the experiences of our contributors and the socio-political climate at the time of publishing, which I think is reflected in the evolution of the magazine’s tone.’

N THE JOURNAL! This week we hear from Oriane Pawlisiak, designer of as their seventh issue goes on sale, with a refreshed design

‘As surprising as it may be for a magazine called Terrible People, our goal is to inspire the best in people! We aim to make our readers question what’s truly terrible and reflect on their own behavior in society by highlighting two kinds of terribleness: what we’ll call subjective terribleness and morally objective terribleness.’

WE LOVE ❤️ The first print issue from . Celebrating five years of the influential Substack of the same name, and arriving in a London heatwave that demands ice cream-the perfect launch cover!

Their intelligent mix of polemics and restaurant tips transfers well to print. The hard line of much of the content is softened by the design, which references a mid-20th century Englishness that is at odds with yet balances the reading in a satisfying manner. Best of all, the new magazine is genuinely surprising, a mixture of material from the last five years and new stories. Includes The River Cafe, Brixton McDonald’s, Guinness and desperate attempts at DEI

WE LOVE ❤️ The new issue of Printing Fashion from .fashionstudies. As ever, a must-read for anybody interested in the contemporary role of the magazine, this time it examines Desire and its use and portrayal by the fashion and publishing industries, exploring its role in powering capitalism in the broadest sense as well as the more central leverage of s*xual desire in selling

Like the recent S*x issue of Slanted, this Printing Fashion cleverly aligns desire in material (analogue) terms with desire in s*xual terms
