Sundays in Marche. Today we’re tippling from Azienda Agricola Vicari a family winery based in Morro d’Alba, where the Vicari family have been bottling their wines since 1990.

Their Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC ‘Capofila del Pozzo Buono’ is fresh, dry and incredibly food-friendly, with the crisp character that makes Verdicchio such a brilliant match for a long Sunday lunch.

Versatile with lightly aromatic vegetable pasta or rice dishes and classic fish preparations and some late-August sunshine.

Late August means one thing in Friuli, harvest is almost here. At San Simone the Pinot Grigio grapes for their Friuli Grave DOC are traditionally harvested from the last week of August into early September, making this rather perfect timing for a glass.

On the palate this San Simone Sauvignon Blanc is rich, fragrant and aromatic with natural acidity and a pleasant crisp, dry finish. A little taste of Friuli as the vineyards prepare for one of the most important moments of the year.

From Sardinia with Argiolas Winery
We’ve headed to the island with Argiolas Winery winery and their Vermentino di Sardegna DOC ‘Is Argiolas’ 2025.

Made from 100% Vermentino selected from some of the estate’s oldest vineyards, this is a fuller expressive take on one of Sardinia’s signature grapes. Lively, fresh, rich, balanced, delicate and fine - all in a glass.

Ripe peach and apricot, melon, almond and honeyed notes, balanced by the freshness and vibrancy that makes Vermentino such a brilliant summer wine.

From the Treiso hills in Piedmont, Ca'del Baio has been a family affair for four generations, producing wines that perfectly express their corner of the Langhe.

Their Moscato d’Asti DOCG ‘101’ 2025 is made from Moscato grown in the Tre Stelle vineyards and is all we want to be drinking in a warm August.

Apricot, florals and fine bubbles, with a lovely freshness. Sweet, light on the palate, with good acidity and a long, fresh finish. At just 5% ABV, it’s light, aromatic and easy to enjoy.

*Available via Eurowines.

From the heart of Emilia-Romagna, Otello Ceci NerodiLambrusco 1813 is a deep and softly sparkling take on one of Italy’s most recognisable wines CECI 1938

Dark purple-red in the glass, it offers delicious notes of red berries, and ripe cherry with a subtle touch of musk. Medium-dry and full-bodied, yet wonderfully soft, with fine bubbles and a smooth, velvety finish.

The CECI 1938 story began in 1938, when Otello Ceci served his Lambrusco alongside traditional dishes at his busy trattoria near Parma. Today, the family continues that legacy, creating wines firmly rooted in the food and energy of the region.

Best served well chilled, preferably alongside seafood and tapas. Your weekend starts now.

Not all rosé is pale. Shock!

From the hills of Abruzzo Cantina Tollo Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOP ‘Colle Cavalieri’ is a richer, more characterful expression of Italian rosato, produced from Montepulciano grapes.

Vivid cherry pink in the glass, it has notes of ripe cherry and blackcurrant, lifted by delicate white flowers. Medium-bodied and beautifully smooth, with refreshing acidity and a soft, silky finish. Proof that sometimes, deeper is better.

Ciao Aagosto! A little Puglian sunshine for the first weekend of August.

First produced in 1943, Five Roses from Leone de Castris holds a special place in Italian wine history as the first rosato to be bottled and sold in Italy.

Made predominantly from Negroamaro, with Malvasia Nera, it is vibrant and refreshing with inviting notes of ripe cherry and strawberry, balanced by crisp acidity and a smooth, persistent finish.

A true Salento classic.

From Campania comes one of southern Italy’s most distinguished red wines. Luciano Ercolino’s Taurasi DOCG ‘Santandrea’ is produced from carefully selected Aglianico grapes, harvested late in the season to capture the variety’s depth, structure and distinctive character.

Rich and expressive, it offers layers of dark cherry, ripe plum and woodland fruit, complemented by notes of spice, to***co and gentle balsamic herbs. Structured tannins and refreshing acidity bring balance, leading to a long, warming finish.

Awarded 91 points by Falstaff, what better way to start the week?
