One Saturday was never going to be enough. So we’ve given you five days of fizz. 🥂

Our Annual Bubbles & Sparkles Tasting now runs Tuesday 8 to Saturday 12 December, so more of you can join us.

Can’t be arsed to make lunch? Same.

Starting on Saturday 24th October
every Saturday 12-4pm
we’re doing W**e & Toast 🍷🍞

A glass of house w**e and a slab of sourdough toast, topped with:

🧀 Rarebit: cheese, mustard and ale, grilled until it’s golden, bubbly and properly gooey
🥩 Beef bourguignon: braised in red w**e for hours so you don’t have to

About the grape: cinsault is a grape of many names (so many we can't list them here) used for Rhône red blends & Provence rosés. In reds, it is fresh, punchy, floral & fruity. Cinsault is also a proud parent of Pinotage, the South African hybrid grape.

Flavour profile: red fruits, violet, black tea

Try if you like: pinot noir, sangiovese, gamay

🥂Are darker rosés sweeter?
The short answer to this is nope! The colour of rosé does not indicate sweetness.

Rosé's colour differs for various reasons: the amount of skin contact, the colour of the grapes used, etc. Increased skin contact can produce more fruit-led & textured rosés, but these are still often completely dry.

🎀But is colour linked to quality?
Colour is also not a marker of quality: good and bad w**es are made at all points on the colour spectrum.

➡Basically: darker doesn't equal a sweeter or lesser rosé. Pay attention to other descriptors when choosing – you might be passing up on your new fave just because it's darker!

About the grape: hailing from Catalonia, Xarel-lo is an essential part of cava, balancing richer grapes like macabeo. Excitingly (if that's your thing), it's increasingly used to make fresh and interesting orange & white w**es, too!

🍇Why are there crystals in my w**e?🍇

Ever seen glass-like crystals in your w**e?

Fear not, your w**e bottle hasn't secretly shattered from the inside. This is due to a substance found in grapes called tartaric acid.
Sometimes, when w**e is exposed to cold temperatures, the acid reacts with potassium to produce harmless sparkly crystals. W**e with extra bling!

Why doesn't this happen to all w**es?

Some w**e producers, especially large-scale ones, stabilise their w**es to remove tartaric acid. But as this can affect the w**e's flavour, many don't.

Basically: these crystals don't mean the w**e has gone bad. If anything, it can be a marker of quality. If they bother you, just strain them out and continue enjoying your w**e!

It's time for the Fall W**e Reshuffle and we need help clearing the summer w**es.
This week only (Sept 15–19), any bottle marked with a neon yellow dot earns you a free glass of our House Red or White (by adding 75 W**e Miles to your account).

Buy five dotted bottles, get five glasses. No dot, no deal. Simple as that.

Stock is not infinite, we checked. Once the dotted bottles are gone, that's it till next time, so early birds get the good shelf.

Beyond Burgundy Tasting
October 24th, 8pm

A night of w**es that said "hold my b**r" to Burgundy.

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay: Burgundy's crown jewels, the grapes every other region has spent centuries trying to live up to. On October 24, six American bottles are stepping into the ring to see who's really wearing the crown.

We will have back on hand to guide us through these serious contenders. If you came to our American tasting in February, you know Andrew doesn't mess around. Expect everything frome finesse and precision, to the American boldness you are probably expecting.
