Beyond Burgundy Tasting
October 24th, 8pm

A night of wines that said "hold my beer" to Burgundy.

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay: Burgundy's crown jewels, the grapes every other region has spent centuries trying to live up to. On October 24, six American bottles are stepping into the ring to see who's really wearing the crown.

We will have back on hand to guide us through these serious contenders. If you came to our American tasting in February, you know Andrew doesn't mess around. Expect everything frome finesse and precision, to the American boldness you are probably expecting.

➡SWIPE RIGHT: Grolleau

About the grape: with a name derived from the French word for 'crow' due to its deep black grapes, it might be surprising that Grolleau is mainly used for making Loire Valley rosé and light-bodied red wines.

Flavour profile: high acidity, low tannins and red fruit flavours

Try if you like: gamay, pinot noir

Pair with: Moroccan dishes

➡SWIPE RIGHT: Hondarrabi Zuri

About the grape: wines made from this Basque country grape were made to be drunk on a hot summer's day. Spritzy and fresh but with herbal and floral notes - it's giving vinho verde a run for its money!

Flavour profile: citrus, ripe fruit, herbs, floral

Try if you like: vinho verde (duh)

Pair with: raw seafood, salty fried seafood, grilled seafood... you get the idea

This September, we’re on island wine! Through this tasting, we’re challenging mainland supremacy by showcasing a range of ridiculously tasty and well-made island wines. These aren’t going to be the bottles you find at duty free. Expect destinations from your Ryanair flight history, wines you haven’t tried before, and a great night out.

➡Swipe Right: Gewürztraminer

About the grape: its name is a bit of a mouthful, but the wines it produces go down just fine! Originally German and suited to cooler climates, gewürztraminer grows across northern Europe, as well as Argentina and Chile.

Flavour profile: aromatic, floral, lychee

Try if you like: riesling, viognier

Pair with: aromatic Vietnamese or Thai dishes

🦅🌭Dog Days Bank Holiday🍷🍺

10 days out from what's shaping up to be a deeply unnecessary, totally excellent encore of our Summer Solstice party.

The New Yorker returns to defend its title: sauerkraut, mustard, and a slightly smug sense of superiority. The Lee and The Tokyo Dog think they've got what it takes to dethrone it. We're not allowed to have an opinion on this. You are the jury.

New cocktails. Different wine pairings.
Same dressed beers, still in the can, still overachieving.

Expect tunes, Freddy in a cowboy hat he insists "is for the vibes", and, if we're lucky, temperatures that don't actively hate us.

For anyone new here, the rules:

• Walk-ins only, no reservations, no exceptions, no matter how nicely you ask. Come early or take your chances with the queue.
• Vegan dogs available, for those choosing the path of virtue.
• Ketchup is grounds for removal from the premises. We don't make the rules.

🌭🇺🇸Dog Days Bank Holiday🌭

Turns out when you bring a taste of the USA to Lee, people show up. So we're doing it again, and this time we're calling it what it is: the last hurrah of summer.

Last time The NYC Dog (kraut, mustard, does not mess about) walked away the champion, and it's back to defend its title. Standing in its way: two brand new challengers ready to fight for the crown. Full menu to follow, but let's just say things are about to get spicy. Literally.

🌭Battle of the hot dogs, round two. NYC is back and it's not here to make friends.
🍺Dressed beers, again. (Still not explaining. Google it.)
🥤Cocktails with main character energy.
🍷Wine pairings that will make you a smarter, better person. Probably.

Basically, expect hot dogs, cold drinks, a rematch nobody asked for but everybody wants, and one final excuse to pretend it's still summer before autumn ruins everything.

Still strictly no ketchup. Some things don't change.🌭

History/regionality: the nepo-parent of Bordeaux grapes, Cab Franc has been displaced in popularity by its genetic offspring: Cab Sav & Merlot. But it has now found its home in the Loire Valley.

Flavour profile: red berries, bell pepper, fresh herbs

Try if you like: Pinot Noir or Merlot

Pair with: herby tomato-based sauces or roast lamb
