Henry’s Marani - Traditional Georgian Qvevri Museum & Winery in the UK

Henry’s Marani - Traditional Georgian Qvevri Museum & Winery in the UK The first ever Traditional Georgian Qvevri Museum & Winery in the UK MARANI is an elegant, yet somewhat unusual Georgian word meaning “wine cellar”.

Welcome to the first ever in the UK Traditional Georgian Qvevri Museum & Winery - HENRY's MARANI, established in 2017. It was precisely in Georgia where the wine culture originated some 8,000 years ago. The Georgians started making wine in what was later established as a traditional way of wine making - in Qvevri, a cone-shaped clay vessel buried in the ground. UNESCO enlisted the wine fermenting

technology in Qvevri as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013. Henry Mchedlishvili, the Georgian by origin, is the founder of HENRY's MARANI. After nearly 2 decades of importing wines from Georgia, he decided to bring the traditional way of Georgian wine-making as well to the UK. You can now experience this tradition of wine making in its original form at the wine department of Plumpton College in Sussex. We usually offer unique wine tasting events, but due to pandemic this opportunity is somewhat limited atm. But, we can offer qvevri wines made in HENRY's MARANI for sale as well as the wines which we specially chose and bring directly from Georgia for you.
