Fabio! New wines and a UK visit!

With Fabio Ferracane about to fly in from Marsala, Sicily for a run of events in Leeds, Manchester & London, we’re delighted to release the new wines he’ll be pouring along the way.

On the west coast of the island, with vines growing right up to the waters of the Laguna dello Stagnone, Fabio creates a kaleidoscope of saline, Mediterranean wines from native grapes Grillo, Catarratto and Nero d’Avola.

From hazy, golden frizzante col fondo, long macerations of Catarratto in amphora, tart, refreshing rosato to juicy, old-school reds, passito-style vino dolce and fragrant vermouth, Fabio has all bases covered and offers a taste of the lesser-known spirit of Marsala that a handful of dedicated growers in the area seek to preserve.

Find them all at waywardwines.co.uk or on the shelves of our Leeds shop now. You can also catch him at the following events over the weekend with full details in the slides.

• Saturday 30th May
Fabio joins us for our next Leeds warehouse session, pouring his wines all day long and into the night. All welcome.

• Sunday 31st May
We head over the Pennines to join our good friends at for a Fabio takeover on the marina. All welcome.

• Monday 1st June
We’ll be teaming up with fellow importers and for a professional tasting - this one is trade only, get in touch if you’re not already signed up. Fabio will be pouring all 9 wines we are currently listing in person.

Hope to catch you along the way X

NEW BOUGES…

We’ve just received the latest vintages from Mr Clic Clac himself, Mikaël Bouges, maker of pristine, mineral wines along the river in Faverolles-sur-Cher, Touraine.

Along with lots more of that irresistible sparkling wine which most know him for - new label, same excellent vintage - we’re excited to add some of his more serious single parcel wines to the list, each coming from tiny individual vineyards of between a half and quarter hectare, all from the 2023 vintage.

100% Côt, Les Co****es d’Anes, then a wine we’ve not seen in a good few years, La Pointe 2023, a fragrant, chiseled Gamay and from the smallest plot of them all, Le Fié, a broad, textural press of Sauvignon Gris.

On the more youthful, fresher side the brand new 2025 French Clara is here and good to go, a zippy little Sauvvy B from the youngest vines - always good fun and at a great price as usual.

Find them all to order at waywardwines.co.uk or a selection at our Leeds shop.

Wow... we’re still reeling from last month’s party! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in the sunshine and made it a record-breaker beyond our wildest expectations. 175 bottles of Vinyes Singulars were poured out. Yes, at one point we completely ran out of glasses with a queue of you snaking out onto Brussels Street! But we hope it was worth the wait and we thank you all for making it a day for the books. In little under three weeks’ time, we go again...

We’re over the moon to have another producer joining us for the day. Once again on the sun-drenched, Mediterranean tip, will be flying in from Marsala, Sicily to pour his energised island wines all afternoon and into the evening. Expect many shades of Catarratto, Grillo, Zibibbo and Nero d’Avola as we pray for the sun gods to bless us once more, from aperitivo to infinity. The additional deep cellar blackboard will heavily focus on further Italo bangers from the rest of the land, alongside the exhaustive by-the-glass list.

Food as usual comes courtesy of our lovely neighbours fresh from their and oh la la did they certainly take it up a notch last time. Expect the upgraded BBQ to be ablaze with birds and bavettes both smoked and grilled, plus a selection of sweet and savoury baked goods from the oven inside to keep you going.

Music this month comes from our old friends and returning residents ( ) and Barry’s Here ( ), plus another incarnation of our house band, Sharkey Groop, which features a rotating personnel of young jazz musicians, led by the legend - they’ll be playing their two fully improvised sets at 4 and 5.30pm.

We thought 200 glasses would be enough but we have got more this time. Hope to see you on the 30th!

The latest from Franken…

After an encouraging response first time around, we’re so pleased to release the latest vintages from Franconian wunderkind, Martin Hirsch.

Working out of his father’s old cellar in this respected, though by and large lesser-sung region in the south of Germany, he operates outside the strict Prädikat system, declassifying his output to the table wine designation of ‘Landwein’, somewhat stacking the odds against him in the old-guard domestic market in the process.

While it’s widely accepted that French wines under the equivalent Vin de France can be truly remarkable expressions of a grower’s intent, Landwein still isn’t perceived in quite the same way by the majority of German drinkers. But as we all know, this freedom allows a grower to work entirely on their own terms - and Martin very much does, producing intuitive, distinctive wines shaped by those that inspired him from his home country and beyond.

Some are his take on the precision, terroir-driven Silvaner of the region, others move beyond clear reference points. In short, the Landwein tag feels pretty much irrelevant. All from vines farmed organically, in some cases with a completely hands-off approach, and with zero inputs in the cellar.

From bracing, featherweight Dornfelder and Domina reds, through sunset-toned Pinot Gris and Roter Traminer macerations, to the tense, finely tuned Muschelkalk Silvaner, they are a wonderful, intriguing set of wines to contemplate. They are quietly assured, compelling expressions of Franken; its unexpectedly long, hot summers and shell-limestone soils.

Find all of the wines at waywardwines.co.uk now, with a selection available at our Leeds shop too.

New Vinyes Singulars…

Ignasi Segui of Vinyes Singulars jets in on Saturday for a series of events with us in Leeds, York and London. Ahead of that we have a slew of new wines hitting the list, bringing a little Mediterranean sunshine along with them.

It’s hard to believe it’s almost a year since we last received some wine from Ignasi. With the cellar all but bare and with his visit imminent, we’re thrilled to share the new releases with you. Always well-timed for spring and summer drinking, they are little capsules of sunshine from the coast south of Barcelona. Find the whole selection online now and there is the chance to join us at our warehouse party in Leeds on Saturday 25th, .york on Sunday 26th, or, if you work in the trade, our big spring tasting on Monday 27th, where you’ll be able to taste them all with Ignasi in person.

Working the ancient family estate in the Alt Penedès that dates as far back as the 1400s. His wines are a celebration of the native grapes and winemaking traditions of the region and fly in the face of the more industrial brand of Cava the DO is more widely associated with. Vines are farmed with organics and there are strictly no additions in the cellar. For us they are wines that are inseparable from the beautiful Costa Daurada coastline and the buzz of Barcelona, transporting us there every time with their sunkissed Mediterranean citrus fruits, spices and oceanic salts.

Visit waywardwines.co.uk to find out more about the wine, the events and to place an order. A selection of these wines can be found in our Leeds shop too.

Wholesale to the trade via - get in touch if you would like to join us on Monday, or to be added to our trade newsletter to be kept in the loop about these and other wines we import.

In a somewhat impromptu turn of events, we’re so happy to share that Mathilde Cousin of Le Vinaigre des Cousines will be joining us in Leeds next week, pouring her delicious sans-alcohol shrubs at our archway warehouse on Tuesday 14th.

If you work in the trade we’d like to invite you to join us between 10am and 3pm to meet Mathilde and learn more about her slow, natural, Orléans-method vinegar-making and how she further transforms them into the delicious drinking tonics they end up as.

A must if you are looking for something truly interesting and natural wine-derived for your low and no drinks list, that completely eschews the unholy process of industrial dealcoholisation.

We’ll be opening a selection of other Wayward Imports that have recently arrived to pour alongside.

Get in touch if you’d like to join us at 61 Brussels Street.
