Cheers to English Wine Week! 🥂

To celebrate, we will be spotlighting a different English wine producer each day. We’re kicking things off with the award-winning Roebuck Estates, a standout producer producing exceptional traditional method sparkling wines in the heart of Sussex.

Founded in 2013 by friends Michael Smith and John Ball, Roebuck was born from a shared passion for wine and a mission to produce exceptional vintage sparkling wines using estate-grown fruit from some of Sussex’s finest vineyard sites. The estate covers six parcels over 120 acres, growing classic Champagne grape varieties and named after the roebuck deer that roam the countryside, the brand reflects a deep connection to the land. Roebuck is also a founding member of the Sustainable Wines of Great Britain (SWGB) scheme, championing responsible viticulture.

Their Classic Cuvée is rich and refined, with aromas of baked apple and citrus, complemented by a subtle toasty character. Elegant and silky, it’s the perfect pour to raise a glass this week.

Next week is English Wine Week, an annual campaign to promote the wonderful world of English Wine.

The sparkling wines that we produce here in England have become a growing source of pride on the English wine scene. The progress that a number of wine estates have made over the last twenty years is really quite remarkable. The chalky soils of southern England, notably in Sussex, Kent, and Hampshire are nearly identical to those in Champagne, and the warmer summers due to climate change have improved the ripening conditions, with a longer ‘hang time’ on the vine.

The result is that English sparkling wine has rapidly gained recognition for its exceptional quality, rivalling some of the world’s finest Champagnes, and earned a reputation for being fresh, refined, and a true reflection of the region’s terroir.

Kuki Sauvignon Blanc is made to our exacting specifications, and the result of many months of tasting and comparing. We wanted more fruit, more zest, more intensity and a lot more complexity, so we have blended different plots and terroirs of Marlborough to give a superb wine.

This is ripe, intense and deliciously elegant with layers of gooseberry, passionfruit and lime leaf, citrus layers add structure along with a pronounced minerality and floral finish.

It really is a delicious Marlborough Sauvignon from a top New Zealand wine producer and we are delighted to be offering it as our Wine of the Month for June for only £12.69 (usually £14.69) providing outstanding value for money 🥂
