We are sad to say that one of our primary suppliers, R J Trevarthen Ltd, have decided to put a hold on shipping their products to Scilly. As suppliers of top-quality Cornish meat, who worked closely with us to meet our customers’ needs, it’s a great loss.
The reason for their decision is the ever-growing difficulty they have in shipping products to Scilly using services provided by the Steamship Company. In recent years, and especially over recent months, we have been amazed by the lengths to which all suppliers have gone to continue supplying Scilly, so whilst this came as a big shock, it’s not surprising.
Please be assured that, at St Martin’s Stores, we will do our best to source alternative supplies of a similar quality for visitors and residents alike.
We have to record a big thank you to Trevarthens. As a supplier they couldn’t have done a better job for us and it was a pleasure working with them. Whilst based in Cornwall they worked hard for the islands, the businesses they supplied and in turn the residents and visitors who loved their products.

Hugh Town, a ghost town, mid-afternoon, six years ago today. I scurried through, face covered. It was so strange to see it like this, when visitors would normally be coming and going for the shops and off-island boats, or queueing for the Scillonian and a sunny evening trip back to Penzance and on home.

One of those days when travel between the islands on a fast boat with salt air in the nostrils and wind in the hair can't fail to remind you that life is good and the natural world is a wonder to behold.

Examples of the early spring growth and gorgeous colours at Tresco Abbey Gardens after a wet and windy winter. With St Martin's Stores closed for the day due to work on the islands power supply we took chance to go off-island. And what a lovely day it was!

The Northern Lights over St Martin's, Isles of Scilly! A living mix of reds, greens and purples, giving the night sky the appearance of a multi-coloured liquid being gently stirred. From the path below Barnacle Rock, looking out over Great Bay and towards Lands End.

Spotted dolphins jumping and circling, way over towards St Mary's from Old Quay, St Martin's this afternoon! A first for me to see dolphins from the island!

As elsewhere, St Martin's lost a fair few trees to the storm. Mostly the older pine, although what's affectionately known as the broccoli tree miraculously survived!
