๐Ÿธ Vodka's origins are deeply rooted in Eastern Europe, with both Poland and Russia claiming its invention. The earliest written records of vodka production date back to the 15th century, with Poland having a manuscript from 1405 referencing "wรณdka". While the exact origin remains debated, it's likely that vodka-like spirits were independently developed in different regions of Northeastern Europe, including Poland and Russia, possibly as early as the 9th century. ๐Ÿธ

We're back from our summer break and wanted something to really get our teeth into - so we are going to fully geek out on Barley with Jack Henderson.

Jack studies Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI) in barley, this is when plants release natural compounds through their roots to inhibit microbial nitrogen loss, making them more efficient at using nitrogen. It's a natural and promising way to improve both the environmental and economic sustainability of crop production.

In Scotland, around 35% of applied nitrogen fertiliser is lost, driven by nitrification. And nitrous oxide (Nโ‚‚O) account for 7% of our total greenhouse gas emissions. Barley is the backbone of whisky, making it more sustainable is key to the future of the industry.

We're back open after a glitch in the power this morning!

And with two brand new UK exclusives from Gordon & MacPhail joining our own shop exclusive we have a great reason to pop down and see us this afternoon.

Firstly, a single cask bottling from Gordon & MacPhailโ€™s Connoisseurs Choice range of a 16 year old Craigellachie Distillery distilled 2009, this meaty Speysider was matured in an American Oak Hogshead and bottled at 60% ABV.

Sweet clementines and grapefruit flavours lead to honeycomb.

We love Royal Brackla liquid and our second exclusive is from this great distillery - again from the Connoisseurs Choice range by Gordon & MacPhail this 15 year old offers
Sweet and spicy flavours with banana, blueberry and black pepper.

Bottled from an ex Bourbon Cask at 58.7%

This belter from the Tomatin Distillery โ€” the ๐‚๐ฎฬ€ ๐๐จฬ€๐œ๐š๐ง ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ ๐˜๐ž๐š๐ซ ๐Ž๐ฅ๐ โ€” is fully matured in Oloroso casks for maximum richness.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Expect sun-dried fruits, exotic spice, and a touch of smoky decadence.

๐Ÿฅƒ A healthy 50% ABV brings a punchy mouth feel, perfect for lengthing the wonderful flavours.

๐‚๐ฎฬ€ ๐๐จฬ€๐œ๐š๐ง is named after the Ghost Dog that prowls the distillery. Legend has it that a worker on site was confronted by the canine spectre on his way home. Instead of being scared, he was compelled to reach out and pet it.

Upon a touch the dog disappeared into a puff of smoke and so became the inspiration for the ๐‚๐ฎฬ€ ๐๐จฬ€๐œ๐š๐ง range

We are so happy to have this great dram back in stock.

The Berg is a lovely sherry cask whisky brought to you by High Coast Distillery.

Sweden is one of the biggest producers of whisky in Europe after the likes of Scotland and Ireland. Swedish distilleries are producing innovative malts and blends that are rightfully gaining recognition in some of the biggest whisky consumer markets.

High Coast distillery is one of the most renowned distilleries in the country. The original name was Box Distillery and it was changed to High Coast ( Hoga Kasten in Swedish) in reference to the region in Sweden where it is to be found. The distinctive red buildings of the distillery look even more atmospheric under a layer of winter snow.

We had a great time when we popped in to the offices and tasting room of the Lost Distillery Company!

What a beautiful place, in the stunning estate of Dumfries House!

Daftmill Distillery is situated near Cupar in Fife, making it one of just seventeen Lowland distilleries currently producing whisky, however with at least 6 more under construction, the Lowland region is the fastest growing region in Scotland.

Unique in amongst the region, lies Daftmill, a true farm distillery. All the barley used for production is farmed on the estate. The whisky is all distilled by Francis and Ian Cuthbert in the farm off season; two months in summer and two months in winter โ€“ this is a very traditional way of running a distillery that hasnโ€™t been seen in Scotland since the 1800s.

The barley variety Concerto was grown in the south fields and harverested on the 2nd and 3rd of September of 2011, and then dried and stored on the farm to be malted in Alloa during the spring of 2012.

23 first-fill, ex bourbon barrels were used in this release, They were filled into cask in July and August of 2012 and bottled in June 2025.
