QUESTION: What is 2.5%, not going to knock you for six after five in the sun and is basically sunshine in a can?

Meet the Radler

A proper easy-drinking German classic. 50% beer 50% fruit juice. Think shandy but like fruity!

These are an absolute favourite of mine, this one is for all day, for making the most of the sun, for a session, a picnic, a hangover, if it’s sunny i’m drinking one!

And we’ve got them stacked:

from and with a Hefeweizen base: Grapefruit, Pineapple, Watermelon & Mint.

From my favs and Pale Ale based: Sicilian lemonade, Pink lemonade

the legends themselves, - obvs paulaner based: Lemon Radler

and last but not least (one of my favourite lagers of all time): Grapefruit Radler

Come grab one before the sun clocks off ā˜€ļø

Alright then… the sun’s back out, so naturally El Cal is back pouring.

Our lovely little lime cerveza-style pale from Horsforth Brewery has returned, and honestly, this is exactly what you want in your hand when the weather behaves itself.

Light, crisp, clean and ridiculously refreshing, with a gentle citrusy hop character and a proper fresh lime finish that keeps you going straight back for another sip.

It’s giving ice-cold holiday beer energy… just brewed in Yorkshire and served in a very cool glass.

4%. Easy drinking. No thinking required.

Come and have one in the sunshine with me.

RIGHT THEN… bank holiday energy, the town’s about to be busy, and we are absolutely leaning into it… so here it is… YOUR FRIDAY TAP LINEUP!!!!

Keeping it simple this week because there’s one I really want you to have your eye on…

Fuggles & Golding – our very own session bitter brewed with Horsforth Brewery, made just for us. Full bodied but still easy-drinking, fresh bread crust, a bit of toffee, crisp orchard fruit and a light floral edge. Proper pint, that. The kind you settle into and suddenly the glass is empty again.

The rest of the lineup is looking very strong, but I’ll let you lot decide what’s not hanging around…

You know the drill… first person to correctly guess what goes first gets a prize. Get commenting.

Ilkley Carnival, bank holiday weekend, and we’re even open Monday… you’ve got plenty of time to get involved.

See you for a schooner or five. Love ya.

Alright then… this place was always going to suit a good whisky. It’s got that cosy, settle-in-for-a-bit sort of feel about it.

The shelf’s looking pretty solid at the moment:

Talisker 10 – smoky, coastal, a proper fireside dram
Nikka From The Barrel (my personal favourite) – bold, rich, quietly showing off
Slane Irish Whiskey – smooth, easy, very good company
Jack Daniel’s – reliable, for all you jack and coke fans out there

And yes, we’re doing it properly – drams available, so you can take your time, lean on the bar, and enjoy it as it should be.

I’ve got big plans for this shelf though. i know we’re missing a great bourbon so If there’s a whisky you love and can’t get round here, tell me! I want this to be the kind of place where your ā€œusualā€ is actually on the shelf.

What are we missing?

ā€œDos cervezas por favor… numero seis.ā€

And luckily for you, I know exactly what you mean.

El Cal from Horsforth Brewery is pouring now – a 4% pale that’s basically summer in a glass.

Light, crisp, easy going. Gently hopped with Amarillo so there’s a soft citrusy lift, then finished with lime which just keeps it bright, clean and ridiculously refreshing.

it’s sunny, i get it, you’re picturing that classic ice-cold, lime-in-the-neck, comes in a cardboard crate beer and you’re in the right ballpark. Just this is fresher, better, and brewed a lot closer to home.

This is your go-to, no-thinking-required, sunny afternoon pint. The one you start on… and then just quietly stay on.

”Hasta este fin de semana!

Sun’s out, 18 degrees this weekend, and I’ve got just the thing…

Vega Tolosa – 11 Pinos Orange Macabeo 2024 has JUST landed, and she is absolutely singing. Proper skin-contact, organic, a little bit wild but very well put together.

Think dried apricot, orange peel, a bit of honey and herbs on the nose, then peach, quince and citrus on the palate with that lovely gentle grip you only get from an orange wine. It’s textured, fresh, slightly savoury and just really, really drinkable.

If you’re sat there thinking ā€œwhat actually is orange wine?ā€ – it’s not made from oranges (I promise). It’s white grapes made like a red wine, left sitting on their skins for a bit, which gives it that colour, a bit of texture, and a touch more attitude than your usual white. Basically a white wine that’s grown up and got interesting.

I will be drinking this from inside and looking out at the sunshine, You’re welcome to join me.
