The village shop now has its own honey, with the hives only being 4 miles from the shop.

The bees are well looked after, sustainably managed and locally bred, which supports our native bee population.

It is raw unprocessed) honey, meaning it’s practically straight from comb to jar so not fine-filtered. Any wax sediment at the top of the honey is completely safe and edible. It also means that the honey contains all the good stuff including pollen (key for hay fever) and propolis and any particles in the honey are propolis/pollen and completely natural and edible

The names of the Queens are on the backs of the jars and include Melissa and Freya. The name Melissa comes from the nymph from Greek mythology who fed baby Zeus honey, who was called Melissa. Mel is Latin for honey and why honey bees are called Apis melifera (Apis = Bee, melifera = honey bearing). Freya is a Norse goddess responsible for beauty, fertility, life and death (and also the name of the bee keeper’s daughter!)

We hope you enjoy!
