We are learning a whole heap about New Zealand wines this evening with the wonderful Dan Taylor from

It’s not just Sauvignon Blanc either, although for the record their Sauvignon is stunning. Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and even a little Noble Riesling.

We’re also learning a lot about culture and the history of New Zealand and not just the wines, but the people and the place which seems only fitting as this is the only Māori owned winery in the world.

An amazing evening. Pop in to discover these fantastic wines for yourself, well all except the fabulous Noble Riesling as we had the only UK stock and we sold the lot!!

An amazing wine tasting last night with Rhone Valley wines from and wonderfully hosted by the ever fantastic from

Every wine hit the spot but the undoubted star of the night, particularly sales wise, was the stunning Tavel rose. A proper dark rose that refuses to bow to the vagaries of fashion. Traditional Rhone rose in its traditional hue. Fresh, elegant, textured and dry proving once and for all that the colour of a rose wine does not dictate whether it is dry or sweet.

This is probably the best rose you will drink all year. My advice would to be get it while you can, it will blow your mind and change the way you think about pink wine, it certainly did for everyone in attendance last night.

A genuinely fabulous afternoon out in Leeds tasting a whole huggin’ of tremendous new wines. It’s only proper that of a wine tasting is in your doorstep that you actually go, but this one his a cracking day wherever it is.

We followed the tasting with an evening in for good scran, great dregs and awesome company.

Days like this do make you think that this isn’t really a proper job.

Awesome New Wine

We’ve been out and about doing some tasting recently and this particular bottle is Bridget’s favourite white wine from a huge number that she has tried.

It’s an astonishingly good Gruner Veltliner from Barbara Ohlzelt in Austria. The vines grow in slatey soil in the Kamptal, Blauenstein translates as ‘blue slate’.

It’s a charmingly delicate wine but it still has a complex richness to the finish. There’s an awful lot going on and it’s very, very easy to taste the quality of fruit and the attention to detail that has gone in to this wine.

PLUS! The wine comes in a box with a very handy technical know-how sheet and a very pretty little thank you card.

ALSO, and quite possibly more important, there is a picture of a goat on the label, and Bridget loves goats. A winner all round. £32 a bottle or ££165 for 6 bottles.

Well that brightened up my morning. We had the absolute pleasure of meeting Dmitri from and tasting through some of their fabulous bottles.

I already knew they made fabulous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, their distinct blue labels have already graced our rickety shelves. They were just as good as I remembered but the Nebbiolo was a real eye opener, absolutely stunning. From a white perspective the Savarro was incredibly balanced. A magical combination of fine acidity and truly engaging texture.

Arriving to a shelf near here very soon.

A note on the pics.
The first pic shows we need to work on our bottle holding technique, too many labels facing the wrong way and covered by my grubby mitts.

The second one shows that we put a teeny bit of effort in to them.
