📢 Visitor Notice

Due to high winds Castell Harlech is currently closed.

We are monitoring the situation and will provide an update when the castle is able to reopen.

The visitor centre, shop and café will remain open.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

This is exactly why I keep telling the younger generation to STOP AVOIDING CASH! 💷

Why should we use banknotes instead of paying by card?

Let’s say I’ve got a £50 note in my pocket.
I go out for a meal and pay with that £50.
The restaurant owner then uses the same note to pay the local launderette.
The launderette owner takes it to the barber.
The barber then spends it at the corner shop.

That same £50 changes hands again and again — still worth £50 every time. No hidden charges. No deductions. No banks involved. Just money circulating freely in the local economy.

But if I’d paid by card?

Each card transaction comes with a 3% fee.
With every payment, a chunk is lost to the bank.
After just 30 transactions, that original £50 is reduced to around £20 — and nearly £30 has gone to the banks in fees.

Use it or lose it.
Once cash disappears, it won’t be coming back.

Our opening hours are extended as of today. We’ll be open seven days a week from 8:00am until 6:00pm, but we’ll close at 4:00pm on Sundays! 😄😄
