Very honoured to have hosted both Symington Group CEO Rupert Symington and Head of Sales Anthony Symington to give our customers a masterclass on the newly released 2024 Port vintage. What made this even more special was that this event was the first time retail customers had been able to sample the vintage anywhere in the world!

The Symington group is the titan of the port industry, owning Graham’s, Dow’s, Warres’s, Cockburn’s, and Quinta do Vesuvio. Rupert and Anthony’s obvious pride in five generations of family heritage port-making was a joy to see.

We learnt about the traditions of vintage port, including the use of horses in the vineyard (the ancient vines are planted very close together on slopes that are too steep for tractors) and of course, the treading of grapes by foot.

But 2024 is pretty extraordinary… there hasn’t been a vintage port declared since 2017, making it the longest gap between vintages since WWII. And well worth the wait! Experts are comparing it to 1945 and 2011 (the greatest vintages of all time). We’ll be sending out our offers in the coming days in case you’d like to try for yourself…
