Back to the 80s:
Celebrating 80 Years of Inverarity Morton
As we mark 80 years of supplying Scotland's licensed trade, here at Inverarity Morton, we're throwing it back to one of the most influential decades in - the 1980s. A time of bold branding, vibrant cocktail culture, and seismic shifts in the spirits, beer, and soft drinks industry, the 80s laid the foundation for many of today’s trends shaping the on-trade.
The 1980s were a vibrant, transformative for the drinks industry, defined by bold cocktails, vodka dominance, and a revival of liqueurs and vermouth. like Smirnoff, Absolut, and Malibu rose to global fame, while flair bartending and colourful serves like the Woo Woo and Blue Lagoon turned drinks into fashion statements. Despite a challenging period for Scotch whisky, marked by overproduction and closures, the era produced rare and now-coveted casks. Lager reigned in Scotland’s beer scene, cider struggled, and soft drinks saw fierce cola wars and growing interest in premium mixers. Many of these trends, from aperitivo culture to and low/no alcohol options - are resurging today. At Inverarity Morton, we’re proud to have been part of this spirited journey, raising a ('Hurricane' style) glass 🍹 to the boldness of the 80s and the innovation it inspired‼️
