Good Spirits Wine & Beer

Good Spirits Wine & Beer The newest wine merchant in the city centre. Opened June 2015, we aim to be the best independent win

We are an independent wine and beer merchant based on West Nile Street in Glasgow city centre. Our craft beer range includes many fine brews from Britain, Belgium, the USA, the Czech Republic, and beyond, with everything from the hoppiest of IPAs to the darkest of porters, via lambics, dubbels, tripels, saisons and many more. We have a great range of wine from around the world, with a particular f

ocus on Spain and Italy, as well as classics from France, Australia, Chile, and South Africa amongst others. To round it off we have a choice of champagnes and sparkling wines, along with port, sherry, and dessert wines, while our fine wine cabinet has a small selection or old, rare, or particularly fine wines.

Just a couple of fresh ones this but enough to have us thinking - misty eyed - back to times past.
We haven’t had anything from Blackjack Brew Co in quite some time, but I think back to their bottles (like I said, it has been a while) and evenings in their Manchester tap room with great fondness.

‘The Dream’ - a collaboration with the mighty St Mars Of The Desert - looks back even further, with their take on a Roggenbier, a historical German rye based beer. Weizen yeast + spicy rye? Haud me back!
And for those of you whose bodies don’t see eye to eye with gluten we picked up their ‘Aspin Pale’, a GF number hopped with Nectaron & Mosaic so you know you’re in for a good time.

Top selling wines from last week.

The weather has definitely turned autumnal and so have your wine choices.

Top red was the big rich heavy Mottura Stilio Primitivo Di Manduria, 4.3 on Vivino(if you believe in that sort of thing).

Top white is the Clea Verdejo from Rueda in Spain. White stone and citrus fruits, medium bodied. Great for the summer into autumn vibe.

It has been a great 24 hours in our beery little world (more on that to come) with some great deliveries to match.

Holy Goat are back with a Framboise, a BA Flanders Red a BIG BA Stout - in collaboration with Dead End Brew Machine no less - and an Export Stout for good measure. A couple of these are almost gone already so come see us at your earliest opportunity.

Vault City are getting a little ahead of themselves with a somewhat autumnal selection this week. I’m not quite ready for summer to be over as yet, but I’m not mad at a sour take on a Dark & Stormy.

Aaaaaaaaand sound the Oktoberfest klaxon 🚨 for the last couple of Bavarian bangers, including the long awaited Augustiner offering. 🍻

We are back with our top selling wines from last week!

Getariako Txakolina Ameztoi Rubentis Rosado took over from our white wines as top seller.
This has always been a staff fave and now it’s yours too!

Once again Regard d’Artiste Rouge is top for the reds!
You all can’t get enough of this juicy wee number. We don’t call it ‘hoose joose’ for nothing!

PS - we are here til 7pm today.

Something pretty darn exciting has just landed in the shop and it’s a NEW cider from Brachan Cider!!

Made by the Glasgow Cider Company, Brachan is a small-batch bottle conditioned cider made with patience, precision and a profound respect for the fruit. Made from handpicked Herefordshire apples the juice is then wild fermented which allows the naturally occurring yeasts to shape the character. The fermentation happens over 12 months and the result is a fully dry cider that is meant to be enjoyed and savoured in good company.

You’ll find fresh orchard aromas that unfold into a rich and structured palate of bittersweet cider apples, layers of ripe fruit, gentle tannins and a distinctive hint of smokiness that we think would pair with so many tasty foods (or even a favourite dram!)

Previously you’ll have been able to find Brachan on tap at the Ben Nevis or at the Rail Yard Market but now you can also find it on our shelves 😎

Ahoy-hoy it’s new beers on the horizon and there are 9, that’s right NINE new beers from 6 breweries so make sure you scroll all the way through to see all of the newness 😱

New to us is Fair Isle, located all the way in the Pacific Northwest with 2 saisons and a piquette inspired farmhouse ale. These are thoughtful beers that have been fermented with their house culture of wild and feral yeasts and bacteria.

From Baron a DIPA, and a red IPA that is gluten free!

If you’re after something Spanish we’ve got an IPA from SOMA, or maybe you want a ‘mango sticky rice’ smoothie sour from Finland in collaboration with a Thai brewery.

Perhaps something from down south in England, we’ve got a hazy pale from Two Flints and a pale ale from Verdant.

All of these beers are on the shelves and ready for the weekend (we’ve even out one in the fridge but you’ll just have to come by to see which one).

Category is….. juicy and fruity beers!!

If you’ve been in the shop today you’ll have seen us busy getting orders and transfers onto the shelves and that included three new beers from Otherworld and one new beer from Dookit.

Otherworld is helping us all hang onto the remnants of summer (just don’t look outside right now) with an orange sour, a pink sour and a lime & habanero IPA.

Dookit has given us a self described “Summer smasher,” balanced between Australian hops and Scottish pale ale malt, soft and tropical what more could you want?!

We’re here until 7pm for all of your beer (& wine) related questions and suggestions and then back again tomorrow 10-7

It’s a small (in at least a couple of senses) but perfectly formed this week, leaning heavily on the ‘low and no’ section of the shop.

When Phil from Philip Sisson was dropping off beers last week he mentioned an article in Pellicle about the wonders of Maisel’s Weisse Alkoholfrei.
One quick read later and we had to get some, alongside some personal alcohol free favourites from Verdant and Arbor.

And - just in case you can’t live by alcohol free beer alone - there’s a fresh Pale Ale from The Kernel hopped with Rakau, Amarillo, Krush & El Dorado.

Top sellers time!

Once again the OTX topped the white charts, you guys just can’t get enough of it!

The reds turned more serious again with Chateau Grandis 2012 making yet another appearance.

But the big news is the winners of our Sparkling Wine Tasting on Saturday. The Champagne Jean Gimonnet Origine 2013 was the overall winner. This is the new vintage and boy is it a cracker.
The Francois Ducrot Pinkpoul Pet Nat came in a close second. Juicy with a perfect hit of funkiness. Both remarkably great value.

All available in store and online.

Hope to see you all soon!
