200 plus drams well and truly conquered, yes, another great day at Steelies Bar. Always a good turn out and a lovely interactive bunch.

What did we find out on the day? Snobbery has no place, opinions are like 🍑, colour and chill filtration have their place but is it possible to taste either???? And we also heard the old, " I don't like peated wh**ky!"

Can you pass me your empty glass please 😂.

Another day, another release 🤔

Not quite though.

This is the first release from The Borders Distillery, a single malt that has been in preparation for the last 8 years.

Full credit for them holding off for so long 👊🏻.

Predominantly matured in first fill bourbon barrels providing a soft sweetness with caramel, honey and vanilla. A final maturation in Madiera casks has given added flavours of rich sultanas and added a greater depth to the whiskies characteristics.

Respectfully bottled at 46% ABV, limited to 10,000 and priced at the very ( respectful) price of £46, this is a bottle made to be opened and enjoyed. Grab one now whilst they are available.

Cryptic as always we have this unnamed Highland single malt from Thompson Bros Dornoch Distillery

Clues are scattered throughout the stunning label and with the wording perhaps 🙊.

We think we know what it is but won't disclose our thoughts on here though, it's up to yourselves to work it out.

All we will say is that you are getting a beautifully well presented 19 year old single malt, matured in refill hogsheads, all naturally presented at a punchy ABV of 57.1%.

And all for the price of £85.

Cracking wh**ky at a cracking price point.

GOLDEN PROMISE

The Golden Promise Edition celebrates a barley variety renowned for its rich flavour and historic importance in Scotch wh**ky. Matured with a 68% influence from first-fill bourbon casks, alongside carefully selected first-fill sherry casks which make up the remaining 32%. This cask make-up highlights Golden Promise’s naturally structured and indulgent character, revealing layers of buttery pastry, baked orchard fruits and gentle spice.

LAUREATE

The Laureate Edition showcases a newer generation of barley, selected for its resilience and exceptional flavour potential. With a 68% influence from first-fill sherry casks, balanced with 32% first-fill bourbon maturation, this wh**ky brings forward Laureate’s vibrant and elegant profile, with notes of candied orange peel, dried fruits, ripe orchard fruits and a lasting honeyed finish.

Both bottled at 48.2%

Not easy to single out which is the best, let's just call it a win if you manage to even try one.

We had a really great Friday night at Fraserburgh Golf Club, where a line up of interesting drams provided a great night with equally some good talking points.

A range of different whiskies from The Uncharted Wh**ky Co. , Dornoch Distillery, Old Perth Wh**ky and Benromach Wh**ky were sampled on the evening, a good range of whiskies with something for everyone.

Credit to the crowd that came to the event, it's great when people are interactive and conversation about what folk are trying can be made, that is a huge part of the purpose we feel.

And also a big thanks to the organisers of the evening. It's great to see things done for the good of what we have locally in the Broch and it's a privilege to play a small part in that 😊.

Anyway, weekend and chill because Monday will soon be here.

This is one of his final batches of legendary Octomore BBQ sauce, made with a serious amount of Octomore Scotch Wh**ky.

We're still reeling from the loss of a dear friend and Ambassador to the world of wh**ky but glad we can help his family even if it's just a little.
