👻🥃 THE HAUNTED SPIRITS OF SCOTLAND

Behind every great wh**ky lies a story… but some are darker than others.

Scotland’s wh**ky distilleries are steeped in centuries of history, tradition and, in some cases, tales of unexplained encounters.

This Halloween, we’re exploring four fascinating legends associated with distilleries represented in our collection.

🐎 BOWMORE | The Headless Horseman

On the windswept Isle of Islay, legend tells of a mysterious headless horseman whose appearance coincided with a rather unusual discovery — a missing dram of Bowmore wh**ky. A ghostly visitor, or something far more ordinary?

🏰 LINDORES ABBEY | The White Lady

The haunting legend of Claypotts Castle, built on land once belonging to Lindores Abbey, tells of a mysterious lady said to appear at a window, forever waiting for a lover who never returned.

🐺 TOMATIN | The Phantom Hound

Deep in the mist-covered Highlands, folklore speaks of Cù Bòcan, a spectral hound said to roam the surrounding landscape. One tale describes a distillery worker reaching out to touch the creature, only for it to vanish without a trace.

🕯️ GLENDRONACH | The Spanish Lady

Perhaps one of Scotch wh**ky’s most intriguing ghost stories. Legend has it that a mysterious Spanish lady arrived at GlenDronach concealed within a sherry cask. Her spirit is said to have wandered the distillery before finding a more permanent home at Glen House.

For those who enjoy a smoky dram with a difference, we’re delighted to have three fantastic expressions of Old Ballantruan back in stock at The Wh**ky Studio!

🥃 A PEATED SPEYSIDE WH**KY?

Speyside is traditionally known for its smooth, fruity and elegant single malts, but Old Ballantruan takes a different approach!

Produced at Tomintoul Distillery, nestled in the beautiful Cairngorms in Speyside, Old Ballantruan is made using heavily peated malted barley, creating a distinctive smoky character rarely associated with the region.

Named after the nearby Ballantruan Spring, this wh**ky showcases a completely different side of Speyside.

✨ THREE EXPRESSIONS TO EXPLORE

🥃 Old Ballantruan 10 Year Old
A beautifully balanced combination of earthy peat smoke, sweet malt, vanilla, gentle citrus and warming spice. A great introduction to peated Speyside wh**ky.

🥃 Old Ballantruan Original
The expression that showcases the distillery’s distinctive peated style. Expect rich malt sweetness, smoky notes, hints of spice and a lingering peaty finish.

🥃 Old Ballantruan 15 Year Old
A more mature expression, bringing together layers of peat smoke, rich sweetness, oak, spice and a wonderfully complex finish.

🔥 WHAT MAKES THEM SPECIAL?

Unlike many of the smoky whiskies associated with Islay, Old Ballantruan offers a fascinating Speyside interpretation of peat, combining smoke with the region’s characteristic sweetness.

All three are bottled at 50% ABV, non-chill filtered, helping preserve their full-bodied character.
