What a brilliant afternoon at Glen Clova! 🥃🏔️

We had a fantastic time hosting a Wh**ky Studio tasting at Glen Clova Hotel as part of a very special wedding celebration.

It was a pleasure taking everyone through a selection of Scottish whiskies, sharing a little of the history and stories behind each dram — and, most importantly, enjoying plenty of laughs along the way!

A huge thank you to the happy couple for inviting The Wh**ky Studio to be part of their wedding celebrations, and to all the guests who joined in and made the tasting such great fun. With quite a few visitors experiencing Scotland and its wh**ky from across the Atlantic, it made the afternoon even more special. 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

And what a setting for it — Glen Clova was absolutely stunning.

🥃 Great wh**ky
🏔️ Beautiful surroundings
💍 A wonderful wedding celebration
❤️ And a fantastic group of people

Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish you both a lifetime of happiness, adventures and plenty of good drams together. 🥂

Thank you again for having The Wh**ky Studio along to be part of such a memorable occasion.

🌴🥃 NEW IN — TAKAMAKA EXTRA NOIR 🥃🌴

Something a little different has just landed at The Wh**ky Studio — Takamaka Extra Noir, a rich and punchy rum from the Seychelles.

Extra Noir is made from a blend of pot and column distilled molasses rums. It’s soaked with French oak, then pressed with both French and ex-bourbon wood, before being allowed to settle for 60 days in ex-French cane rum casks.

The result is a full-bodied rum with plenty going on:

🌴 High-ester tropical character
🌶️ Warming spice from the French oak
🍦 Vanilla
🍯 Sweet, rich undertones
🪵 Toasted oak

Bottled at 43% ABV, with no added sugar and non-chill filtered, it’s a cracking choice for anyone who likes their rum with a bit more depth and character.

Enjoy it after dinner, sip it over ice, or use it for a long, serious highball.

And the bottle and presentation box aren’t bad looking either! 👌

🥃 NEW IN — KILCHOMAN ROCKSIDE 11 YEAR OLD

Something rather special has just arrived at The Wh**ky Studio…

Kilchoman Rockside 11 Year Old — a limited release celebrating the Islay barley grown at Rockside Farm, the neighbouring farm that Kilchoman purchased in 2015.

🌾 100% Islay — grown, malted, distilled, matured and bottled on Islay
🥃 11 Years Old
🔥 Classic Kilchoman peat smoke
🍯 Rich fruit, sweetness and warming spice
🌊 That unmistakable coastal Islay character
✨ Non-chill filtered & natural colour

Kilchoman is one of the few Scotch wh**ky distilleries able to control virtually every stage of production themselves — from barley in the field to wh**ky in the bottle.

The Rockside release is a lovely example of what makes Kilchoman so distinctive: Islay provenance, traditional production and plenty of character.

🍂🥃 HELLO SEPTEMBER… AND HELLO “BER” MONTHS! 🥃🍂

September has arrived, which means we’re officially into the BER months…

SeptemBER 🍁
OctoBER 🎃
NovemBER 🔥
DecemBER 🎄

And somehow, wh**ky just seems to taste even better at this time of year. 🥃

Cooler evenings, darker nights, autumn colours and the perfect excuse to reach for those rich, warming drams — sherry casks, smoky malts and a little something special by the fire.

Here’s to the start of our favourite wh**ky-drinking season. 🥃🍂

What’s going in your glass this September?

🥃 BALMENACH — A SPEYSIDE DISTILLERY YOU DON’T SEE EVERY DAY!

Balmenach is one of those fascinating distilleries that many wh**ky drinkers have never come across.

Founded in 1824 near Cromdale in Speyside, most of Balmenach’s wh**ky has traditionally been destined for blends, so seeing the name Balmenach on a bottle of single malt is relatively unusual.

Thankfully, independent bottlers such as Signatory Vintage give us the chance to taste it in its own right — and we currently have some cracking examples in the shop!

🥃 So what does Balmenach taste like?

Balmenach tends to have a fuller, weightier style than you might expect from Speyside, with a lovely malty and fruity character.

You can typically find notes of:

🍎 Ripe apple & orchard fruits
🍯 Honey & malt
🍐 Pear
🌾 Biscuity cereal notes
🌿 Gentle herbal/earthy character
🌶️ Pepper & warming spice

And when you combine that robust spirit with first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, things get even richer — think dried fruits, dark sweetness, raisins, warming spice and plenty of depth.

Pictured are two fantastic Signatory releases:

🔥 Balmenach 10 Year Old – 100 Proof Edition #79
Finished in 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts and bottled at 57.1% ABV.

🔥 Balmenach 17 Year Old – Cask Strength Collection
Distilled in 2008, matured in a 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Butt and bottled at 57.8% ABV.

🍸 And did you know?
Balmenach Distillery is also home to Caorunn Gin!

Nearly 200 years of wh**ky-making history, yet still one of Speyside’s lesser-known names.

Definitely one to try if you enjoy discovering something a little different. 🥃

🌱🥃 WHAT EXACTLY IS ORGANIC WH**KY?

We’re all familiar with organic food — but organic Scotch wh**ky is a little less common.

It starts in the field. 🌾

For a wh**ky to be certified organic, the barley must be grown according to strict organic farming standards, without synthetic fertilisers or pesticides that aren’t permitted under organic certification.

But it doesn’t stop at the barley.

🥃 The production process matters too.
From malting and fermentation through to distillation, maturation and bottling, the organic spirit has to be carefully controlled and traceable, with procedures in place to prevent it being mixed or contaminated with non-organic ingredients.

Even the distillery’s records and processes are checked as part of maintaining organic certification.

Two great examples are sitting on our shelves:

🔴 Benromach Contrasts: Organic — Benromach released what it describes as the world’s first certified organic single malt Scotch wh**ky in 2006, putting it at the forefront of organic Scotch.

🌿 Nc’nean Organic Single Malt — made using 100% organic Scottish barley, with sustainability built into the philosophy of the distillery.

So when you see ORGANIC written on a wh**ky bottle, it represents far more than the barley — there’s a carefully controlled journey from field to bottle. 🌾 ➡️ 🥃
