New in at Fareham Wine Cellar: Precocious by Raimes Rosé 2025, only £20 a bottle.

Raimes are one of our favourite Hampshire producers, better known for their sparkling wines from the chalk near Tichborne. Precocious is something a little different — a dry still rosé made entirely from Pinot Noir Précoce, the early-ripening cousin of Pinot Noir that suits our English climate so well.

Pale, fresh and properly dry (not a sweet picnic rosé). Think bright cherry and red berry, a hint of wildflower, and that lively English acidity that keeps it crisp. Serve well chilled.

Why pick this one up? Local Hampshire wine with a real story behind the name
Easy drinking at 12.5%, but with enough character for food. Lovely with grilled salmon, prawns, goat’s cheese, charcuterie or a late-summer salad.

Pop in and see us at 55 High Street, Fareham, PO16 7BG. We’ll happily talk you through it, or you can order online with UK delivery and no minimum order.

Have you tried an English still rosé yet — or do you still reach for Provence first? Tell us in the comments, or message us if you’d like a pairing idea for Friday night.

An interesting article about the fires in Bordeaux earlier in the year. Well worth a read.

Reputations are shaped as much by misinformation as by information. In the aftermath of the Bordeaux blazes, Sarah Neish brings you the facts about the fires – and what they really mean for the region’s 2026 vintage.

Baron de Lustrac 1976 Vintage Armagnac: the 50th birthday bottle of 2026

Know someone born in 1976, or celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary this year? This is one of those rare bottles that actually matches the milestone.
Distilled in 1976 and now a full 50 years old, Baron de Lustrac 1976 Vintage Armagnac has spent half a century in Limousin oak.

The result is a beautifully evolved Gascon brandy with notes of prunes, figs, violet, honey and butterscotch, finishing with that distinctive earthy rancio that only long ageing produces. It’s presented in a traditional Armagnac bottle inside a wooden gift box.

Pop into 55 High Street, Fareham and we’ll talk you through the vintage years we have in stock (or help you find another year if 1976 isn’t quite right). You can also order online with UK delivery and no minimum order.
Who do you know turning 50 in 2026? Or what’s your favourite way to mark a big anniversary — Armagnac, whisky, or something else? Drop a comment or message us — we’d love to hear (and help you choose).

Have you tried Candover Brook Brut?

Candover Brook Brut NV is made on the Sainsbury family estate in the Candover Valley — 2,000 acres of Hampshire countryside between Wi******er and Basingstoke, planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier on chalk soils identical to those of Champagne.

The consultant winemaker is Hervé Jestin — one of the most respected sparkling winemakers in the world, who also consults at Hambledon Vineyard. The Brut is aged on lees for a minimum of 42 months before release, producing a wine of real depth, creaminess, and autolytic complexity.

And there's a conservation story too: 50p from every bottle sold goes towards protecting the rare English White Clawed crayfish in Hampshire's chalk streams — the very stream that runs through the estate.

Ranked 23rd in the Top Wineries of Great Britain 2026. ÂŁ36 a bottle.

In-store at 55 High Street, Fareham — or shop online 👇

Recap: An Unforgettable Evening with Clonakilty Distillery at Fareham Wine Cellar

A great night! We had the absolute pleasure of hosting Paddy from Clonakilty Distillery for our long-anticipated tasting event, and it’s fair to say a fantastic time was had by all who joined us at Lysses House Hotel on the same night as the solar eclipse, 12th August 2026.

Paddy was a perfect host for the night. His warmth, engaging storytelling and infectious enthusiasm made the evening flow seamlessly. Guiding us through the windswept heritage of Clonakilty’s Atlantic coast distillery, Paddy gave us a fascinating look into the meticulous craftsmanship, wood policy, and unique maritime ageing that set these Irish spirits apart.

Whilst the Irish Whiskies were the main attraction, we kicked off proceedings with a gin and tonic made with Clonakilty’s Minke Gin with a garnish of lime and mint. Crafted using local rock samphire harvested from the cliffs near the distillery, the gin was exceptionally well received across the room. Its crisp, bright botanical character and velvety mouthfeel made it a huge hit, proving that Clonakilty’s expertise extends well beyond the cask.

When we turned our attention to the whiskey flight, the quality across the board was remarkable. However, two expressions clearly captured the imagination, and palate, of the room, becoming the undisputed best-sellers of the evening. The Clonakilty Double Oak proved a crowd favourite with its luxurious vanilla sweetness, gentle spice, and smooth finish. Equal praise was showered on the Clonakilty Port Cask Finish, which delighted attendees with its rich dried fruit, delicate berry undertones, and velvety texture. I would add that the Galley Head Whiskies are all too easy to drink, I particularly liked the Rhum Cask.

A huge thank you to Paddy for delivering such a generous, informative, and entertaining masterclass, and to everyone who joined us to make the evening so special.

We have long known that the single-vineyard, old-vine wines of Bodegas García de Lara in Castilla-La Mancha are something special. From rare, ungrafted Pie Franco Airén vines planted in 1935 to deep, mineral Cencibel and endangered local grapes like Tinto de la Pámpana Blanca, these artisan wines showcase incredible Spanish winemaking. People are now starting to take notice!

In their latest Discover Spain 2026 report, top critics Tim Atkin MW & Beth Willard awarded fantastic new scores to the upcoming vintages:

🏆 93 Pts – Finca Villalobillos Airén Pie Franco Fermentado en Barrica 2024 (Tim Atkin)
🏆 93 Pts – La Viña de la Cueva Colorá Cencibel 2023 (Tim Atkin)
🏆 91 Pts – Finca Villalobillos Airén Pie Franco 2024 (Beth Willard / Tim Atkin - Castilla-La Mancha Top 100)
🏆 91 Pts – Finca Villalobillos Tinto de la Pámpana Blanca CVC (Tim Atkin)

While these new vintages are making headlines, you don't have to wait to taste why critics are raving. We currently stock all four Bodegas García de Lara cuvées on our shelves and online!
