In November 2007 a survey of approximately half the households in Ewelme was conducted as part of the Parish Councilβs Village Plan initiative. Of the 200 households in the village surveyed, over 95% of respondents rated the existence of a village shop as very high and pledged both financial and/or voluntary help. At the same time as the need was identified, the old shop premises in the Old Post O
ffice were purchased by Lord & Lady Jay who pledged support to the formation of a village shop by renovating the premises and offering them to the village for a nominal rent per annum. Consequently the community formed the Ewelme Village Store Association and applied through VIRSA to the FSA to become an Industrial and Provident Society for the Benefit of the Community (IPS BenCom). As such any surplus made by the shop is either re-invested in the shop or the local community. The shop opened early in May 2009, with plans to develop a sustainable, self financing business. We are proud to offer a wide selection of products, covering basic supplies to special treats and everything in between. We are especially proud of our homemade baked goods (made in store), including a delicious array of homemade cakes, fresh soups and our amazing cheese scones! We also have a superb selection of frozen goods from Cook (award winning individually portioned meals) and Field Fare (delicious loose frozen food - it's like pic 'n' mix for the freezer!). We have an extensive range of excellent greetings cards with something for all occasions and lots of different styles - something for everyone! Finally, our tea room: we offer a range of homemade rolls, soups and cakes, and a great selection of hot/cold drinks. We love welcoming cyclists (we have a bicycle pump at the shop and will refill water bottles for free), walkers and anyone else who fancies a delicious bite to eat. We offer eat in with a lovely view over the pond, or takeaway. We look forward to seeing you in the shop soon!
