🥳 Our June ‘Meet the Volunteer’ is Sylvie 🥳 We asked Sylvie some questions about volunteering, but first, a little back story…

Back in January 2019, Sylvie discovered that our then Post Office and shop were really struggling and she asked the owner if he would like her to do something to help drum up business and he said "Yes please".

Sylvie approached Alison Quill to help her design a flyer with the words "USE IT OR LOSE IT". The flyer was produced and distributed to every household in Draycott and Rodney Stoke.

Alarm bells started to ring when the Post Office was lost and Helen Dance was approached, as a few years earlier she was part of a campaign to save the shop. Helen produced a flyer inviting residents to a "Meeting" for all the properties in the Parish. The flyer was delivered by the volunteers who deliver the Parish News. We didn't want history repeating itself and our village shop was under serious threat of closure.

On 27th June 2019, 130 people attended the Meeting in St Peter's Church to discuss the future of our village shop and some residents stepped forward to form a committee to look into whether we could save our shop.

The rest as they say is history and we have been trading successfully since November 2019 🤩

❓ What encouraged you to volunteer with us?
🔔 I personally didn't need any encouragement to volunteer, it was originally "my baby".

❓ What’s your favourite part of volunteering?
🔔 My favourite bit about volunteering is meeting and talking to all the customers and being part of something very special.

❓ What would you say to anyone who is thinking of joining the volunteering team?
🔔 Do it. You get so much out of volunteering. This is our Shop - come on join an incredible team, we need as many volunteers as possible, you won't regret it I promise.

🎉 It’s National Volunteers Week this week, and we would like to thank all our amazing volunteers 🎉
Without you all, quite literally, we wouldn’t be here! From doing shifts in the shop, to picking up orders, to the plethora of background jobs that need doing to keep us running, WE THANK YOU 🤩
