Phew, we’ve been mega busy the last couple of days getting us smartened up.

But the painting is finished (for now), so let’s have a quick look at what’s coming up this week at The Pour House because it’s a busy one…

So…

Who else has started watching the new series of Clarkson’s Farm? 🚜🍺

Whether you love Jeremy Clarkson, loathe Jeremy Clarkson, try and translate what Gerald is saying or simply watch for Kaleb, one thing is hard to argue with:

Hawkstone makes some very decent beer and cider.

And as one of the biggest Hawkstone stockists in the area, we’ve got plenty of it.

Once upon a time, the weather forecast promised rain.

It lied.

The sky is blue.
The sun is shining.
And Devizes is looking rather lovely this morning.

Before we get stuck into all the usual Saturday fun, we’ve got an important conversation happening at 10.30am.

When we launched Menopause Café, we did it because we thought it mattered.

We still think it matters.

The problem is that not many people are coming.

And if people don’t use it, support it, or tell us what they need from it, then eventually it becomes impossible to keep running.

So this morning isn’t really a Menopause Café.

It’s a “help us work out what happens next” café.

If you’ve been before, we’d love to hear from you.

If you’ve stopped coming, we’d love to know why.

If you’ve never been but think it might be something you’d need in the future, we’d love your thoughts too.

Because if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing properly.

Then from 12pm…

The garden is open.
The drinks are cold.
The sun is out.

And the usual Pour House Saturday story can continue.

Can we let you into a little secret?

Independent pubs/bars aren’t built by committees.

They’re built by people who care far too much.

The beer that took three weeks to choose.

The event that took six weeks to organise.

The garden that started as an idea and became a reality.

The recommendation behind the bar that turns into your new favourite drink.

None of that comes from a spreadsheet.

It comes from people.

People who stay up too late thinking about their business.

People who get ridiculously excited about new beers.

People who know their customers by name.

People who care whether you had a good time.

That’s the magic of an independent.

It’s never perfect.

Sometimes things go wrong.

Sometimes plans change.

Sometimes the cellar decides to test our patience.

But every decision is made by someone who genuinely gives a damn.

And we think that’s worth celebrating.

Normal service is resumed.

The boss is somewhere over the Atlantic, approaching Heathrow, trying to remember what time zone she’s in and whether it’s breakfast, lunch or bedtime. ✈️🍁🍺

Meanwhile, back in Devizes…
🏃‍♀️ The Pour House Runners are back.
Fresh from conquering Endure24, covering 427.5 miles and somehow deciding that running is still a good idea.

If you’ve been thinking about joining them, tonight is the perfect opportunity.

You don’t need to be fast.
You don’t need fancy kit.
You don’t even need to call yourself a runner.
Just turn up.

It’s one of the friendliest groups you’ll find, and if 17 ordinary people can take on Endure24 and finish 49th out of 1,230 teams, imagine what you might achieve by simply taking the first step - they did.

🏃‍♀️🍺 HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO THE POUR HOUSE RUNNERS 🍺🏃‍♂️

Last weekend, 17 members of the Pour House Runners took on the mighty challenge that is Endure24.

Three teams.
Twenty-four hours.
An incredible 427.5 miles covered.

And the results?

🏆 49th out of 1,230 teams overall
🏆 10th place in the Mixed Small Team category

Not bad for a group that started out meeting at a craft beer bar on a Wednesday evening.

We’re unbelievably proud of every single person who took part.

From the runners tackling lap after lap through the day and night, to the supporters, organisers and cheerleaders who kept everyone going when the legs got tired and the finish line still felt a long way away.

A special mention also to the team member who couldn’t be there in person but was still coaching, encouraging and supporting from afar throughout the event. ❤️

The Pour House has always been about community.

This weekend showed exactly what that means.

A group of ordinary people deciding to do something extraordinary together.

To every runner who wore the Pour House colours this weekend…

You did us proud.

And we’ll see you all tomorrow for a well earned pint. 🍺😉
