The response to our last post has been overwhelming, and we want to say thank you.

If we could have kept Bowketts Off Licence open, we would have. We didn’t close because we wanted to, or because we stopped caring, or because we didn’t fight hard enough. We closed because it simply became impossible to keep going.

For 27 years this shop was our livelihood, our routine, and a huge part of who we are. Letting it go has been devastating. This wasn’t a business decision made lightly — it was the last option left to us.

The support we’ve received has meant more than people realise. Knowing the shop mattered, that it was part of your lives, makes this loss feel seen and understood.

Thank you to everyone who stood by us, supported us, and took the time to reach out. We’re heartbroken, but deeply grateful.

After careful consideration, we have to share that Bowketts Off Licence has now ceased trading, after serving this community for 27 years here in commercial street.

Sadly, our story is not unique. Many small businesses are facing incredibly difficult times, and despite giving it everything we had and fighting as hard as we could for as long as we could, rising costs and ongoing pressures have finally got the better of us. This was not an easy decision to make.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us along the way. Your support, kindness, and custom have meant more to us than you may know, and we will always be grateful.

We won’t be commenting further on this decision and kindly ask that our privacy is respected at this time.
