🚿 SHAMPOO: SCALP 🚿
As I mentioned on Monday, we all shampoo differently because we all have unique hair! Different lengths, thickness, styles, colours, scalps. But why do I mention the scalp? Because this is the heart of our hair health and where the focus of our shampooing is! We all have different scalp and hair types (my hair is thick yet oily and itchy at the scalp), so wouldn’t it be great if we could have shampoos which focus on individual needs? Well that is possible! At the shop we sell liquid and bar shampoos which either hydrate/calm/invigorate/smooth/emphasis shine/combat/soften…the list goes on! It all depends on which natural ingredients are used. Three favourites at the moment are the Nope Peppermint & Tea Tree bar (calming and detoxing), Faith In Nature Shea & Argan liquid (softening and nourishing) and Upcircle Coconut & Rosemary Creme (restorative and rejuvenating). So if you think your scalp could do with some extra TLC come see if we have a better shampoo for you! 💚

📦 RESTOCKS 📦
I’ve been busy busy yesterday and this morning working my way through getting the empty scoop bins cleaned and refilled! Here’s what’s back in stock so far - the rest will come from deliveries later this week. Currently out of stock of: Dark Chocolate Ginger, Milk Chocolate Honeycomb, Ground Flaxseed, Aleppo Chilli, Cajun Cashews, Ras El Hanout and Pretzels. I’ll update when more restocks come in! 🙂

🚿🫧 SHAMPOO: SULPHATES 🫧🚿
Morning! So yesterday I introduced how to shampoo. Today I’m highlighting that what we many think makes a shampoo “good” can actually be detrimental. Ever wondered why shampoo quickly turns into foam when mixed with water? The answer, for many mass-market branded and supermarket shampoos, is the inclusion of chemical foaming agents like sodium lauryl sulphate and sodium laureth sulphate (SLS). Frequent use of products with a high concentration of SLS may lead to buildup, which can contribute to cell damage and excess oil and protein stripping. Hair is made of protein — in fact, hair itself is a protein filament. When the protein that makes up each of your hairs is damaged, it can weaken the hair, affecting its strength and appearance. SLS are closely linked with damage to hair protein because, along with the grime, these cleansing agents can also wash away your healthy hair — almost literally. For some people developing scalp irritation can be linked to SLS and leads to contact dermatitis. So what can we do?
1. Avoid cheap shampoos. They will almost certainly contain too many sulphates and fragrances
2. Check the ingredients of mass-market shampoos from the big producers and look out for ‘sodium lauryl sulphate’ and ‘sodium laureth sulphate.’
3. Look into using shampoos which only include eco-friendly SLS (ammonium laureth sulphate) which does not linger on the scalp during or after washing - rinsing removes virtually 100% of it, or no sulphates at all. Most ZW shops stock brands which are eco-friendly.
The better the shampoo you have, the better it is for your hair and your wallet, because although the more eco-friendly shampoos can be more expensive, they are more cost-effective in the long run. Your hair will need less, use less, and therefore will need to be refilled less! 💚👏🏻🫧 Open 9:30-4:30 today - feel free to ask me more questions about shampoo in the shop too!

🧴🚿 SHAMPOO: 1 OR 2? 🚿🧴
So as I mentioned this morning, this week I’m going to be sharing shampoo tips, and I’m starting with the one that many people don’t know and applies to both liquid or bar shampoo. I have always double shampooed. My hair is thick and I always felt the first ‘dose’ was really hard work. When I started using eco-friendly shampoo (more about that tomorrow) I felt like I had to put loads more shampoo on my head the first time than second when it came to lathering it up. Is that the same with you? Well I found out that, not only does that apply to all hair types (short/long/thick/fine) but that is SUPPOSED to happen and I should NOT have been adding extra shampoo! Oil and dirt suppress the amount of foam your shampoo created, so the first time you wash there will be less or very little foam. The second time you wash, there is less oil in your hair, which also means more foam naturally occurs and the cleaning process can be completed! So, after learning this, I used a hell of a LOT less shampoo during the first wash, knowing that even though it doesn’t feel like it through touch, the scalp is being cleaned and engaged, ready for the second dose to finish the job thoroughly! And years down the line it has worked a treat. I only need to wash my hair twice a week now! Why don’t you try it? 🧴🚿 SHAMPOO 🚿🧴
Morning! So we’re back to it from 10am today and we have a theme this week: Shampoo! It’s something we all use, but differently: Frequency. Quantity. Brands. Of course! How can we use shampoo the same when we all have different hair and different routines?! But there are some things that I’ve only learnt about shampooing since opening the shop which really surprised me and I’d wished I’d known before. Knowledge is key. Therefore this week I’m going to share one shampoo tip each day which might help you to clean your hair more efficiently, effectively and using minimal products - saving waste and space! So keep your eyes peeled later for the first tip! Open 10-3 today 🙂

Better starting it late than never! We’re back open tomorrow 10-3 and here’s all our hours for the rest of the month; all as normal apart from being closed on the Bank Holiday Monday. Well that was lovely. Definitely feeling a lot more refreshed after our family break; even if our six year old kept us very busy! And it looks like we’ve brought a little heatwave back with us 🙂 Back open Monday; I’ll post all of our August opening hours tomorrow!

Mr Reed is 40 today! Please join us by wishing him a very happy birthday, welcoming him in to the new decade. If you haven’t met Martin yet he works on Friday afternoons and loves it. We’re obviously making it VERY clear in the hotel that it’s his big day! 😆
