This week Jane’s drinking Dom Tabordet Organic Pouilly Fumé 2023 🌱🇫🇷

This isn’t just any Loire Sauvignon Blanc. Marius Tabordet, former rugby player, now maverick winemaker, has transformed his family’s Pouilly-Fumé estate. Since taking over from his father, Marius has led the 15-hectare domaine through organic certification in 2021 and into full biodynamic viticulture by 2023.

"I met Marius at the family winery in early spring 2024 and wow, what a character," says Jane Masters MW. "A bit of a maverick in the region, both in the vineyard and in his approach to winemaking. We immediately jumped into his truck for a tour of the vineyards, which are all biodynamically farmed – no mean feat given the Loire climate. Little did we know then how difficult the 2024 growing season would prove. The 2023 Pouilly Fumé shows a steely mineral character, with mid-palate fruit emerging into a crisp citrus finish."

It’s a vibrant, expressive wine with pure citrus, white stone fruit and signature Pouilly flint. Perfect with grilled fish, prawns or a fresh goat’s cheese salad.

If you like Chianti, then Rimini Rosso is for you. Made from 100% Sangiovese, it’s rich and fruity with flavours of blackcurrant and red plum along with a touch of spicy and toasted oak.

Rimini Bianco, made from 100% Trebbiano, is a delightfully fresh wine with golden apple, quince, macerated flowers and a zesty touch. It’s medium body and mineral structure make it the perfect pairing with seafood or even roast chicken.

Majestic has worked with Cave de Lugny for many years now. They’re based in the heart of the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy 🇫🇷 and are one of the region’s most respected co-operatives. Founded in the 1920s, they bring together hundreds of growers across a patchwork of limestone-rich vineyards — the kind of soils Chardonnay really thrives in!

The Mâconnais itself is a slightly warmer part of Burgundy, bringing a riper, more generous fruit profile to the wines. While it might not have the prestige of the Côte d’Or further north, it offers fantastic value for money 💸. Wines from here tend to be open, expressive, and incredibly food-friendly, and this Definition bottling captures all of that.

It’s fresh and precise, with notes of citrus, white peach and a soft touch of hazelnut. Just enough oak adds texture and depth without losing that lovely lift of fruit. A really well-balanced wine that’s easy to enjoy – I love it with creamy chicken dishes or soft cheeses 🧀

We are Majestic

Majestic specialises in selling brilliant wine by the case. We believe wine – whether you’re buying it or selling it, and especially when you’re drinking it – should be full of fun.

There are plenty of places where you can buy decent wine. What gets us really excited is interesting wine – the wines you taste that are just a little special. They’re difficult to find in the supermarkets but we’ve got hundreds of them for you to explore, and we don’t want you to pay over the odds to find them. Majestic makes interesting affordable, so everyone can enjoy it.

We live and breathe wine, and we taste our fair share too. We love to share our knowledge with people and help them to discover and explore new wines, and we always tell it straight. None of us could ever recommend a wine we didn’t believe in.

Naturally, we think experimenting with wines is a good idea. We’ve never fallen in love with a wine so much that we’d stop trying new ones. And it’s how we run our business. Majestic doesn’t stand still; we’re always trying new ideas and looking for the next big thing in wine. That’s how we stay one step ahead of the competition.

Our People

The big difference at Majestic is our staff. We only employ people who are friendly, enthusiastic and refreshingly down-to-earth. The world of wine can be a little stuffy, but Majestic never is. We want you to feel relaxed when you explore wine with us, because that's how we like to work.

But that doesn't mean our staff don't know their stuff; everyone you meet at Majestic has been professionally accredited by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET). This ensures you get informed answers to your wine questions and some very savvy recommendations from people who enjoy drinking and learning about wine every bit as much as you do.

We're eager to learn because we're all personally passionate about wine. We live and breathe it, and we taste our fair share too. Naturally, we think experimenting with wines is a good idea. We've never fallen in love with a wine so much that we'd stop trying new ones.

We believe that a visit to Majestic should be a very special experience and we always try to go the extra mile. Everyone in the company is happy to roll their sleeves up and work hard to achieve this, and that's how it should be.
