🌟 Celebrating Our Amazing Mike – 11 Years of Community Spirit! 🌟

Mike has been part of Barham Village Store and Post Office for 11 years – almost from the very beginning – and we thought it was time to share a little appreciation for all he does!

When Mike moved to the area, his friend Michael Pearson apparently made it clear that there was one condition attached to living in Barham: you had to volunteer at the Post Office! 🤣 Thankfully, Mike took that suggestion to heart, and we’ve been lucky enough to have him with us ever since.

Now aged 88, Mike still volunteers three mornings a week on the Post Office counter. His commitment, reliability and willingness to help are wonderful examples of the community spirit that makes our village shop so special. In fact, his dedication is legendary – he even came in to volunteer on his 80th birthday! 🎂

All our volunteers give so generously of their time, and we’re incredibly grateful to every single person who helps keep our shop and Post Office running. So, when the Post Office invited nominations for an award recognising people who go that extra mile, we were delighted to put Mike forward in recognition of his remarkable 11 years of service.

This morning, we had a little secret mission to pull off! A film crew arrived to surprise Mike, and we had to persuade him to cover the counter while everyone else was supposedly attending a staff meeting. 🤣 Poor Mike was completely taken aback – and I think he’s still trying to get his head around it all!

Mike has been interviewed, and we should receive a copy of the film in November. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you. In the meantime, here are a couple of sneaky photographs from this morning!

And, of course, Mike was straight back to serving customers as soon as the cameras stopped rolling. We eventually managed to prise him away from the counter so he could sit down, enjoy a coffee and take in what had just happened. ☕️

Mike, thank you for 11 wonderful years of volunteering, friendship and dedication. Your story is a lovely reminder of the people who give their time to make Barham Village Store and Post Office such an important part of our community.

We’re delighted that your contribution is being recognised, Mike, and we’re all cheering you on! ❤️

We’re delighted to say that our Macmillan Coffee Morning raised a fantastic £446.72 for Macmillan Cancer Support! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, enjoyed the coffee and cake, and helped us raise such a brilliant amount.

We’d also like to give a special shout-out to our lovely suppliers who generously supported us: Wingham Bakery, Docker Bakery, Gilda Bakery, Caffè Society and Hinxden Dairy. We really do appreciate your kindness and support.

And last but certainly not least, a massive thank you to all our wonderful volunteers and staff who helped with the baking, serving, setting up, clearing away — and everything in between! You’re what makes these events so enjoyable and such a success.
