120 Years Ago - Inspirations was serving the community as The Fishermen’s Institute 🎣 This building has seen a lot of identities over its 200 year heritage! 😍 A Big Thank You to everyone for coming along to our 15th Birthday Celebrations last night! 🎂🍾🥂 Watch out for our Christmas Launch & Shopping Event coming soon! 🎄🎅🏻🎁
1889 - Late-Victorian Refurbishment
The property undergoes a grand structural face-lift and expansion. It adds its famous balconies and a large upper-level ballroom, establishing itself as the premier luxury lodging option on the inner harbor for visiting merchants.
1902–1908 - The Fisherman's Institute Era
As the Banfield family exits the hospitality trade, the building's upper floors are converted into a dedicated Fisherman's Institute. It serves as a safe haven and community space providing recreation, warmth, and reading rooms for hundreds of hard-working local trawlermen.
1915 - The Wet Fish Shop Conversion
The ground floor is systematically retrofitted into a traditional wet fish shop right on the waterfront, while the upper structure maintains its civic ties to the town's maritime guilds.
1940 - Wartime Requisitioning
The building is requisitioned by the British War Office. The ballroom is partitioned into municipal offices to house the Ministry of Food and National Rationing Hub, where locals line up weekly to collect vital ration coupons.
