A really exciting w**e from Priorat.

Planetes Blanc is made entirely from Carinyena Blanca, a white mutation of Carinyena that Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz discovered growing amongst their vines at Planetes. They liked what they found enough to propagate it across part of the vineyard, and have played a big part in getting the variety officially recognised in Priorat.

The vines grow on the region’s llicorella slate soils and are farmed biodynamically. Everything is picked by hand, fermented naturally and made with a pretty light touch.

Despite coming from hot & dry Priorat, it’s remarkably fresh - pear, quince and white flowers, with plenty of citrusy acidity, texture and that stony, mineral character you’d expect from the place.

A genuinely distinctive white and a nice example of how much more there is to Priorat than big reds.

Bret Brothers was started by Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret in 2001, alongside their family domaine, La Soufrandière.

They work with small parcels of old vines across the Mâconnais, buying the grapes on the vine, picking them with their own team and making everything themselves back at the domaine. Since 2019, all the fruit they buy has been organic or in conversion.

Some of our favourite Chardonnay from southern Burgundy - precise, energetic and seriously good value for the quality.

JURA & COMTÉ AT CAVE

Tuesday 6 October

7pm

Jura w**e and Comté are about as good a match as it gets.

On Tuesday 6 October we’ll be opening a line-up of bottles showing a few different sides of one of France’s most distinctive w**e regions, with plenty of Comté alongside.

It’s a chance to get properly stuck into the Jura, compare the w**es and eat a serious amount of cheese. It should be a very good evening.

Link in bio for tickets.
