BEHIND THE BOTTLE - Producer highlight. 🍇
Sato Wines, Cental Otago, NZ
Husband and wife Yoshiaki and Kyoko Sato both left careers in international banking (they
met at a bank in Tokyo) to pursue their w**e-making dream in Central Otago, New Zealand.
Sato Wines started as a small project in 2009 but began in earnest as they acquired their
own vineyard, La Ferme de Sato, in 2016 with their first harvest in 2019. Both Yoshiaki and
Kyoko have worked with some of the most well-respected natural and biodynamic
producers across Europe and New Zealand, which you can clearly taste when drinking
their w**es.
Currently available on the shelf at Native Vine, Redfield:
🍷 Sur Les Nuages 2023 – Pinot Noir grown at 350m altitude, hence the name meaning ‘in the
clouds’. Medium bodied and bright with notes of red fruit, light spice and wet stone. Pure
class.
🍷 Le Chant du Vent 2020 – Chardonnay. Very precise w**e-making – complex and savoury
bready notes with crisp fruit too. A Vine team favourite!
🍷 Schisteux 2022 – Chenin Blanc. Rich and complex, with stone fruit, hints of mango, subtle
caramel and a bright saline finish.
