I love the history of Brighton, there is always just so much to find out!
The World Famous Brighton Rock shop is within a building that dates back to the early 1800's. In the mid-late 1800's 55 Kings Road became a shop.
I can't be sure of exact dates, and I can't be sure how long the shop front has been how it is!
But I do know that for at least 50 years, it has had a nice solid thick wooden door, a wooden front with a large glass window to show all the goodies on sale and below the large windowsill, still sits a gorgeous set of glass bricks. Unfortunately some of these glass bricks are damaged so are now covered up to preserve the historic charm of our seafront frontage!
All my life I have loved the charm of this little shop. I love the traditional wood frontage, the thick wooden door, the solid pillars to the side of the shop, all of it! My aim is to maintain it all whilst battling the chore of being a direct hit of typical English weather!
In 2025, we had a new canopy put on the shop, whilst that was being done, we also opted to replace some of the wood to make it look a bit fresher! This was when I saw the glass bricks - I LOVE them, very sad when I realised it was better to cover them up at that point in time.
This year, we're stripping back the several layers of paint on the door and the doorframe, making sure the door itself and the wooden frame is still in good condition and then getting a fresh lick of paint back on it!
