These tasty beauties from are back in stock! šŸ˜‹šŸ„³

I’ve been in love with the Pomona and Kingston Black since I first had one after a meal in a pub in 2014. It then became a tradition to sip one every time I saw it on the menu.

And Perry, well you can’t beat a Perry cider. Sooooo moreish and quaffable.

The Burrow Hill lot have been making cider (and Perry) and distilling half of it into Eau de Vie to put into barrels to make brandy since 1989.

They also grow morello cherries, plums, elderflowers, quinces and lavender (which they turn into other things).

Anyway, come and buy some. Not too pricey that you might regret it either…

We’ve just found out that the wonderful Owen and Grace (who have covered the holiday shifts for the last year and a half when back from Uni) are leaving 😩 So we are on the hunt for some new people to cover the holiday periods. To start with this will be a temporary role but it may well turn into a full-time role.

The link to the job description is in our biog (on Insta) and here https://uk.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=dea113abc08a4a30& (on FB).

We look forward to receiving your application!

We are now stocking Iodine (find it on the shelves behind the till, with other amazing alternative medicines like Colloidal Silver).

Iodine is one of the most commonly deficient nutrients in the UK - and because it’s essential for thyroid function and energy metabolism, the effects of low levels are easy to miss or write off as just feeling tired or sluggish.

BioCare’s Nutrisorb Iodine is a liquid supplement that delivers your full daily requirement (150μg) in a single drop. Clean ingredients: purified water, potassium iodide, citric acid. Under the tongue or in a drink.

If you eat little or no dairy or seafood, which are the main dietary sources for Iodine, it’s worth seeing if your tiredness is linked to being deficient in Iodine. Have a read about it online too….

New local gin & vodka from šŸø

And a free distillery tour for 2 when you buy 2 bottles!

AND they will be doing a tasting THIS Friday from 11.30am-2.30pm outside the shop.

A little about Witchmark:
- They actually make their own spirit in their stills in their distillery in Fonthill Bishop near Salisbury, which is rare. Most people buy in the spirit and add their own botanicals.
- They are working with .loveplants to establish, grow and maintain juniper berry bushes… and weirdly, I was at organic farm yesterday with a bunch of AMAZING female farmers and we had a quick tour of the fields and their ecologist was explaining about the work they have done to begin the juniper bush project! (Complete coincidence - funny how the universe works).
- Their barley is from fields surrounding the distillery.
- They have a 100kW solar array on their warehouse roof.
- They do a bunch of other clever things with heat recovery, bio-liquid propane recovery and sending spent grains, botanicals, pot ale and lees to a local anaerobic digester.
- They also make stone daisy beer, which we also sell.
- We are selling 3 gins and the vodka šŸ˜‹
- They are a B Corp šŸ™Œ

So yes… come and try some on Friday. 🄓 *hic*

Did you know that Glyphosate is often used as a pre-harvest ā€˜desiccant’ in the UK (also known as a drying agent), despite being banned in the EU for pre-harvest use in 2023.

This therefore means that UK grown wheat, barley, oats, oil-seed r**e, peas and maize (used for animal feed) is often covered in chemicals a week or so before it is harvested and then ground / processed and turned into food.

It’s shocking to think that trusted brands have a cancer causing, endocrine (hormone) disrupting chemical all over the food we eat.

The crops are not washed after harvest, just blown with large fans. And as glyphosate is a ā€˜systemic herbicide’ it doesn’t just sit on the surface, it is absorbed into the plant. But research also shows that residue levels are higher in wholemeal or brown versions of wheat based products as it’s more concentrated in the outer bran layers, which are removed for white flour.

This chemical is in our (non-organic) bread, breakfast cereals, porridge, biscuits, beer etc etc.

The wonderful and have started a campaign to ban it in the UK, following the EUs example.

I have added the link to the page to our Link Tree account (in our bio on Instagram) and you can click it here on FB https://wickedleeks.riverford.co.uk/banglyphosate/

There is also a great 2 min video explaining this on the page.

Please sign the petition. The humans, wildlife, environment, rivers and sea will thank you. šŸ™

Favourite staff picks…. This is Adam. He is an ace barista. And he has a hilarious Persian cat called Myrtle. He also does all his grocery shopping with us and no longer goes to the supermarket. Go Adam! šŸ’ŖšŸ™Œ

And he’s clutching his favourite meal ingredients. noodles and Nori sheets (did you know you’re meant to toast these over a flame before eating?!), organic eggs from Dorchester (thanks Chas from ), the mega popular smokey chilli oil, some British grown king oyster mushrooms and fish stock.

When’s the invite for dinner Adam?!

ā€˜Gone off’ limes…. We are putting around 30-50 limes a week in the compost bin. And it’s been making us sad (in fact, this is the same for lemons and oranges).

So we decided to juice the ā€˜bad’ ones. Turns out, even if they are hard, lost their colour and got brown spots - they are possibly even in better condition than the perfect green ones. We got 400ml of lime juice from just 7 limes!!! Woah 😳

A few weeks ago someone bought lots of supermarket bought limes to a party and we juiced them. 25 made less juice than these 7. So although you might think you’re getting a bargain in a supermarket (compared to us), it’s actually not!

We also juiced 20-25 clementines the night before and that made 2 litres of juice. Whhhaaaaat….!!

So give us a shout if you’d like to get ā€˜gone off’ fruit off us, to juice. Or to eat.
