Just before Christmas we managed to procure/nab/acquire 5 cases of the absolutely stunning Ch Bard Haut St Emilion Grand Cru Classe 2016 at a quite frankly stupidly good price. Obviously they all disappeared rather quickly and we definitely wished we'd bought more (Considering an article appeared in the drinks press in early January talking about absolutely wonderful the 2016 right banks were we weren't the only ones). We can't manage anymore of the superlative 2016 but we do have a small amount of the only marginally lesser 2015, a mere 93pts from wine spectator this time round....

Say hello to Rowielia — the brand-new, strictly limited local whisky from . Their first release flew out in July, and we’ve been counting the days for this follow-up… and goodness, it’s been worth the wait.

This one’s a lightly peated beauty, marrying two single casks and bottled at a hearty 51.6%. Bold, rich, fruity and just the right whisper of smoke — a proper celebration of the region. Named after the Anglo-Saxon for Rowley Regis, it nods to the coal, smoke and famous “Rowley Rag” stone that shaped the area. In short: it tastes like the West Midlands in a glass, and we’re completely smitten.

Stock is very limited, and it won’t be available online — you’ll need to give Ed a ring on 0121 236 3837 if you’d like to snag a bottle. Once it’s gone, that’s your lot!

Well it's come to the end of 31 Days of German Wine and we know you're wondering what our favourite was... Well this spectacular Spatburgunder from Fritz Wasmer just about cinched it.

Bright fruit with wonderfully balanced Pinot notes delivering much more for £20.50 than you would expect. It flew off the shelves when it first came in prompting a quick reorder!

Serve chilled on an sunny August evening and just savour it.
