Urgent Call for Action: Shoplifting Crisis in Our Community
As small business owners, we work hard every day to serve our community, but lately, we've been facing an overwhelming challenge-shoplifting. The level of theft in our store has reached an all-time high, with individuals walking in, putting items in their bags, or simply walking out without paying. When we try to intervene, we put our safety at risk. As a small, independent shop, we simply cannot afford private security, and when we report incidents to the police, we're often left with just a report number and no follow-up. This is not just about our store-it's about the safety of all small businesses in Bedford. Theft is becoming normal, and that is unacceptable. We urge Bedfordshire Police and Bedford Borough Council to take immediate action. We need stronger enforcement.
