The much anticipated fine wine sale is LIVE!!

Fine wine lovers will know this is the event of the calendar. Not ventured into the realm of fine wine before? Now is a great time to treat yourself to something special without having to pay full price.

We thought we'd treat you on this week's tasting counter, with a classic New vs Old world fine wine selection.

A complex and balanced burgundy, made from clay and limestone terroir. Fresh and floral with apple and peach flavours, followed by a delicate minerality.
To contrast, the Baroness Nadine from South Africa. More oak influenced flavours of vanilla, cinnamon and hazelnut accompany its citrusy nature, with a super long finish.

For red, Chateau Meyney's 2013 St Estephe, a super complex, smooth red, with black fruit, to***co and earthy notes.
Alternatively, a fantastic expression of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon from Wynn's. Dark cherry flavours, with a delicate lavender and dried mint touch, typical of the region.

It's finally Friday, and that means it's time for cocktails!!

We've two super-tasty recipes for you to try at home.
First, we've got a Passionfruit Margarita!
To make:
Fill your glass with ice.
Pour 80ml Espolon Tequila, 40ml Chinola, 40ml lime juice and 20ml Agave nectar into a shaker with some ice. SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE!
Strain and pour into your glass with ice, and garnish with half a fresh passionfruit.

Second: Passionfruit Gin fizz!
To make:
Fill high ball with ice.
Pour in 45ml of Sipsmith Gin.
Add 60ml Chinola. Stir together.
Top up with Fever Tree Lime soda, and Garnish with a lime slice.

These are both super refreshing on a hot, sunny day like today. Why not give them a try yourself?

"I tasted this with customers at a recent event and it showed so well I simply had to make it my Wine of the Week - especially given the current sunshine. Château Peyrassol XIIIE is a premium wine from La Commanderie de Peyrassol in Provence, and we're proud to be the exclusive UK seller. It’s firmly become a staff favourite too – ask any of the team! The estate has bags of wine history, dating back to the 13th century - hence the name - but in fact, human occupation of the site dates back to the Iron Age!

There’s a new name in Thame, but with some familiar features…

A week ago today, we opened our latest new store on the site of a former butcher’s shop - Newitt's of Thame - which was a much-loved part of the local community for more than 50 years, famed for its award-winning pies and meats. Although the pork chops and ribs have made way for pinot gris and riesling, our property teams have worked hard to preserve some of the store’s history and heritage, carefully retaining its black and white tiled flooring, wooden ceiling beams and tiled walls featuring original murals.

We’ve also invested in building an extension at the rear of the store to accommodate our full range of more than 1,200 premium wines, beers and spirits, plus low and no, soft drinks and our newly extended range of premium snacks 🍷🥂🍸🍺🫒🥜

Manager Tamara and her expert team have loved meeting so many of you over the past week - thank you for all your support so far! We’ve still got lots going on in store over the weekend and we’re looking forward to helping even more members of the local community discover new wines, beers and spirits they will love. Summer isn't just about fresh and zesty whites, there are some lighter reds that hit the spot just as well - like Jane's pick this week, a light red from Beaujolais' Fleurie Cru.

"The last few weeks of warm weather have led me to drinking mainly white wine but this week I feel like a bit of a change - nothing too heavy, though. I've gone for a Fleurie from Georges Duboeuf. The 2023 has nice dark fruit and red cherry flavours, a lively smooth palate with fine silky tannins. 2023 was a fine year in Beaujolais and this from the most well known of the 10 crus. Fleurie is known for its pink granite soils producing floral aromatic wines which are smooth in texture."

You will have seen our introduction to the brand new Gardeners Gin a few days ago, and In-house Cocktail fan Charlotte has come up with the for you!

To Achieve 'The Cockpitt' :

Start your engines with a large glass full of ice, add a measure(or 2!) of The Gardener Gin, fill the glass 3/4 full with Miraval Rose, a dash of Campari for depth and colour, then fill to the top with tonic. We chose a gorgeous Ruby red Grapefruit half to garnish, but Blood orange could also work! Super refreshing, the perfect match for a summer's day☀

Although it felt as hot as California last week, that's where we're headed for this weeks tasting counter ☀️

Zinfandel is one of the signature grapes for the region, also known from Italy as Primitivo. We've got 2 fab choices open, the super fresh Kendall-Jackson, and the complex old-vine Three Finger Jack. We've got 2 interesting whites, a crisp, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc from Bread and Butter, and a DELICIOUS viognier from Nettie.

Plus, not quite made in California, but American by association as owned by Brad Pitt, the Miraval Rose for those sunny evenings!
