🍇 Galicia’s Other Grapes Deserve Your Attention
Beyond Albariño, this rugged region quietly produces some of Spain’s most intriguing varietal wines.
🍑 Godello 'Mara Martín'
If you haven’t explored Godello, start here. Delicate peach, greengage, and pink grapefruit with a beautifully judged citrus pith bitterness. Crisp, precise, and pure. A sommelier’s secret weapon.
🍒 Cuatro Pasos Black Mencía
Proof Mencía deserves more love. Deep cherry color, layers of blackberry, cassis, smoky spice, and a mineral thread. Polished tannins, generous fruit, and a balsamic lift on the finish. Old vines, modern elegance.
✨ Galicia’s Atlantic influence, bottled and brilliantly expressed.
🌊 A Taste of the Atlantic
If you know, you know: the Albariños from Rías Baixas deliver like no other. Martín Códax remains the benchmark for this windswept coastal region.
🍋 Albariño
Textbook expression. Bursting with green apple, lemon zest, and a whisper of fresh herbs. That slight petillance on the palate keeps it crisp and irresistibly lively. A flawless aperitif, or with pristine shellfish.
🍐 Lías Albariño
This is Albariño with layers. Lees ageing brings notes of ripe pear, white peach, and warm brioche, adding depth and texture without losing that Atlantic freshness. Silky, generous, and endlessly drinkable.
🔥 The most rated summer white — now £16.97 (save 32%) on multibuy!
Susana Balbo’s Signature White is the bottle wine critics can’t stop praising. Think lemongrass, melon, pink grapefruit, honeysuckle, and white peach, with serious texture and freshness.
Only £16.97 a bottle in our Summer Wine Offer (when you grab 12). Don’t miss it — offer ends June!

A little history
"Great Western Wine" was founded in 1983 by Philip Addis, primarily to sell wines to the local Bath on trade, before enquiries from his friends encouraged the opening of a shop selling the small wine producers imported, alongside increasingly bigger and more international wineries.
Following positive growth, both Fine Wine and Private Customer teams developed, consolidating a strong and loyal customer base across the South West and beyond. The sale of Great Western Wine in 2010 to Enotria Winecellars (later Enotria&Coe) saw Great Western Wine become a 100% business-to-consumer retailer.
In June 2020, we renamed ourselves The Great Wine Co. to reflect how we have grown beyond our traditional West Country base. Although Bath is our home, we sell more wine online than any other way, with customers up and down the UK.
This new name emphasises our greatest asset: the wineries that we represent all around the world. Our core brand values remain rooted in the quality of our portfolio of wines; in celebrating the personalities that sit behind them; and in reflecting everyone's individual tastes to recommend the right wine for each customer.
