In 1994, Corney & Barrow’s Scottish operation merged with Whighams of Ayr, one of the longest-established wine merchants in the UK.

Set up by a group of prominent Ayrshire merchants and landowners in 1766, Whighams traditionally supplied fine wines and spirits to many of the great houses and estates in southern Scotland. Whighams has occupied the current residence in Academy Street in Ayr, for much of the 243 years of its existence. Robert Burns is thought to have visited the cellars in his role as excise man for the area in t

he late 1780s. The 1766-built cellars were constructed for the sole purpose of storing imported wines, ports and sherries shipped on the company-built vessels, which plied their trade around Europe. These cellars are very much still in use today for long-term customer reserve storage.

You can expect a relaxed, walk-around tasting of 30+ wines from around the world.

🧀🍷Our cheese and wine pairing on the month is here!

Saumur Champigny Lieu-Dit Les Villaises Cave de Saumur 🍒🍇

100% Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley, France. It is a deep ruby red in colour with aromas of crisp blackcurrant and raspberries, with fruit compote and delicate balsamic flavours. Grapes used in the production of this tiny lieu-dit (named vineyard) are grown on the site of a Roman villa called “Salmonciacus” dating back to the 3rd century BC!

It pairs beautifully with Montagnolo Affine from . A triple cream blue cheese produced in the Allgau region of Bavaria, Germany. Delicate and buttery with a blue cheese tang that never overwhelms!

Today is International Sauvignon Blanc Day!

High acidity, citrus notes, and that signature herbaceous edge 🍋🌿

Fun fact: that grassy, green pepper aroma comes from compounds called pyrazines—basically Sauvignon Blanc’s signature scent 🍃✨

Ana hails from Marlborough, New Zealand and is named after the winemaker’s daughter who was born shortly after their 2009 vintage.

An unforgettable evening at the Kirkmichael Arms 🍽️🍷

Last night, we joined the team at the Kirkmichael Arms for our first (but certainly not last!) collaborative wine dinner. Justin created a delicious five course tasting menu which blended traditional Scottish produce with creative Asian flavours — bold, innovative, and beautifully balanced.

We had the pleasure of pairing Corney & Barrow wines with this menu, and it was great fun picking bottles that were as unexpected and creative as the food. And all in all, both wine and food went down a treat with guests!

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to that team at the Kirkmichael Arms for hosting such a fantastic evening.

For this special day, we have selected a rare expression of Malbec from one of the highest vineyards in the world in the Jujuy province, Argentina’s furthest northwestern corner. The Huichaira Vineyard is at a breathtaking 2,730m above sea level producing an exceptional Malbec-dominant field blend. This ink black wine is concentrated with wild blackberries, savoury herbs and freshly ground peppercorn. Dense, velvety with layers of complexity and a cooling, refreshing minerality.

Freeda Rosé🌹

Delicate salmon pink in colour. A clean and juicy, very attractive rosé. Raspberries, strawberries and redcurrants on the nose with a crunchy, medium bodied palate. Freeda has real character and attitude!
A blend of Corvina, Sauvignon Blanc and Carmenere making it a perfect pairing for goats cheese! £14.95.

Wijnaard Goats Gouda 🧀

An artisanal cheese produced by the Van Der Wijnaard family who has been maturing cheeses since 1936. The goats Goudas are matured for a minimum of 4 months in specialized caves, resulting in a complex yet balanced character.

The texture is smooth, creamy and velvety which easily melts on the palate. The flavour profile is subtle, sweet with caramel notes to finish.
