This week Janeā€™s drinking Dom Tabordet Organic Pouilly FumĆ© 2023 šŸŒ±šŸ‡«šŸ‡·

This isnā€™t just any Loire Sauvignon Blanc. Marius Tabordet, former rugby player, now maverick winemaker, has transformed his familyā€™s Pouilly-FumĆ© estate. Since taking over from his father, Marius has led the 15-hectare domaine through organic certification in 2021 and into full biodynamic viticulture by 2023.

"I met Marius at the family winery in early spring 2024 and wow, what a character," says Jane Masters MW. "A bit of a maverick in the region, both in the vineyard and in his approach to winemaking. We immediately jumped into his truck for a tour of the vineyards, which are all biodynamically farmed ā€“ no mean feat given the Loire climate. Little did we know then how difficult the 2024 growing season would prove. The 2023 Pouilly FumĆ© shows a steely mineral character, with mid-palate fruit emerging into a crisp citrus finish."

Itā€™s a vibrant, expressive wine with pure citrus, white stone fruit and signature Pouilly flint. Perfect with grilled fish, prawns or a fresh goatā€™s cheese salad.

Two brand new Italian wines have just arrived šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹šŸ¤ŒšŸ½

If you like Chianti, then Rimini Rosso is for you. Made from 100% Sangiovese, itā€™s rich and fruity with flavours of blackcurrant and red plum along with a touch of spicy and toasted oak.

Rimini Bianco, made from 100% Trebbiano, is a delightfully fresh wine with golden apple, quince, macerated flowers and a zesty touch. Itā€™s medium body and mineral structure make it the perfect pairing with seafood or even roast chicken.

As I tasted through the lineup, Definition by Majestic Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 just stood out. Perfect for drinking right now, with ripe fruit flavours of peach šŸ‘, pineapple šŸ and citrus notes šŸ‹, it has great balance and poise ā€“ and is extremely more-ish!ā€

Majestic has worked with Cave de Lugny for many years now. Theyā€™re based in the heart of the MĆ¢connais in southern Burgundy šŸ‡«šŸ‡· and are one of the regionā€™s most respected co-operatives. Founded in the 1920s, they bring together hundreds of growers across a patchwork of limestone-rich vineyards ā€” the kind of soils Chardonnay really thrives in!

The MĆ¢connais itself is a slightly warmer part of Burgundy, bringing a riper, more generous fruit profile to the wines. While it might not have the prestige of the CĆ“te dā€™Or further north, it offers fantastic value for money šŸ’ø. Wines from here tend to be open, expressive, and incredibly food-friendly, and this Definition bottling captures all of that.
