Travelling has always been a big part of my life.

During my childhood, our family travelled all over Europe and as far as Africa in a VW Beetle and we slept in a tent. It was the children's job to inflate the air mattresses and when they were full of air were we allowed to jump into the refreshing waves of the sea. I continued and extended this long-standing and cherished tradition by traveling all over the world with my own family. Inspired by m

any different cultures and colours I looked for jewellery that empowers women: bold pieces that demonstrate strength, boost self-confidence and make you happy. At a time when more and more people are thinking about sustainability, people are also considering whether they need new clothes all the time. The solution is to have just a few basic pieces of clothing and to spice them up with a different beautiful necklace every day. It is important to me to focus on sustainable products, such as glass drinking straws and the matching brushes should of course not be made of plastic, but of natural sisal.

Impression of the solar eclipse in Vejer. Alas, it was not a full eclipse like in the North of Spain but the sunset was beautiful. Zoom in to see the eclipsed sun!

The good news is that next year on the 2nd of August we can look forward to a full solar eclipse here! Totality will begin at 10:45 AM local time, reach its maximum at 10:47 AM, and last for 4 minutes and 9 seconds. 😎

In an area so closely linked to the sea as the La Breña and Marismas del Barbate Natural Park also the wooded areas have their purpose.
The grove has not always been here; this coastal pine forest, the result of several reforestation programmes carried out between 1895 and 1926, was intended to halt the advance of the coastal dunes, as well as to stabilise the soil and protect it from erosion.
Due to its characteristics, the species chosen for the reforestation was the stone pine.
It is a medium-sized tree that tolerates salinity well and grows perfectly on sandy soils, as it has highly developed roots that enable it to draw water from deep layers.
Mature trees have an umbrella-shaped crown and their bark consists of grey plates separated by reddish cracks.

Conil de la Frontera is a picturesque, whitewashed fishing village on the Andalusian Atlantic coast in southern Spain, 15 minutes from Vejer. It is famous for its kilometres of fine sandy beaches, its excellent regional cuisine - particularly its traditional tuna fishing - and its relaxed atmosphere.

Just a few kilometres from Vejer lies El Palomar de la Breña, specifically in San Ambrosio (Barbate). It is situated within an 18th-century estate, where there were once other crossroads.

What you will find there is the world's largest dovecote, listed in the Guinness Book of Records. A total of 7,770 terracotta pigeon nests have been preserved along the walls, which are up to 11 metres high. The Breña dovecote could hold 15,000 pigeons (10,000 adults and 5,000 young).

The primary product derived from the pigeons was manure, or 'palomina', considered the finest organic fertiliser, it was so concentrated that it had to be diluted with water or manure from other animals to prevent it from scorching the crops.

Thanks to other well-documented dovecotes, one can estimate the output of the dovecote manure production of the Palomar de la Breña to be between 10 and 15 tonnes of manure per year.

The pigeons were also used as messengers and their droppings were the basis of gunpowder.

This site is striking for the beauty of its landscape and the curiosities it holds.
