Looking back at last weekend with a lot of racing going on around the world.

Russell Vanderwater kicked things off at Powerman Malaysia - a race he won last year. This time a lot of work related travel had made for a tricky build but Russell once again delivered in every aspect of racing and won his AG once again. 🔥

In Denmark I had a handful of athletes racing Ironman 70.3 Elsinore. Everyone delivered close to perfect performances relative to the race plan they had. Of course there were minor differences but overall I’m very pleased to see the numbers in training translating into actual race performance!
Special shout out to Stine Kjellev for winning her AG only a couple of weeks after riding Granfondo Stelvio! 👏

Last competitor of the week was Nikolai Jenkins - an old athlete of mine that has come back to structured training after moving from Singapore back home to the US. Here he race the olympic distance at the Colonial beach triathlon. Nikolai came 3rd overall after a stellar performance across all three disciplines! A small but important step towards his goal of getting back to full distance ironman racing later this year. 💪

As always I’m extremely thankful for the athletes that I coach and happy to see them all putting together great performances! Hard work pays off 🔥🔥

Another couple of results from last weekend:

Ben Heckscher experienced a few challenges during his race in Shanghai (goggles being kicked off during the swim and a puncture on the bike). However, he kept his cool and managed to race himself back into the race for 3rd place 👏💪🔥

In Aarhus Lene Beith Broberg showed that she is on the right track to phenomenal fitness again by posting a 1:26 at the HCA half marathon 👏😍

This weekend I will have athletes racing 70.3 Elsinore and Powerman Malaysia 🔥🔥

Phenomenal performances by Nicolai Brix and Rebecca Schierup at today’s half Ironman in Aalborg. They both managed to execute a near perfect race- and nutrition-strategy which lead Nicolai to 1st place overall in 4:06 and 2nd place for Rebecca in 4:56 in her first ever half Ironman 🤯😍👏

Congratulations to both of you! Your dedication to your training paid off today 💪👏

Last weekend kicked off his season in style! He will be on to the next one already this weekend 🔥🔥🔥

Finally, I have had the time to speak with all my athletes that ran Copenhagen Marathon last week. I must say I am super proud of the plan we put together and how my athletes executed their individual plan. I have often said that it is very easy to make a plan that looks good on paper but to make a plan that reflect an athlete’s fitness and potential is a different story. Therefore, look at these splits:

2:41 Nicolai Helledie Brix - differed 1 sec in pace between 1st and 2nd half.
2:52 Mathias Rasmussen – ran 2nd half 4 minutes faster (as pr his plan).
2:54 Helle Wehl – exactly same pace between 1st and 2nd half.
3:11 Lene Beith Broberg was sick on the day and had a long tough day unfortunately.
3:15 Svende Mikkelsen exactly same pace between 1st and 2nd half.
3:18 Morten Binzus 2 sec slower pr km on the 2nd half
3:40 Andreas Færk and John Svenson (ran together) ran 2nd half 6 minutes faster for a massive 1hr PB (Andreas).

Well done guys and girls!

I had the pleasure to meet up with my athletes Stathis and Vargin in Milano this weekend for 24th edition of Milano marathon.
They have both been training well going into this but in much different environments than what we experienced on race day - low humidity and 12-20C.
Vargin will normally do his training in either Phuket or Singapore in much greater heat and humidity.
Stathis being based in Cyprus has to deal with high temperatures as well.
From a coach perspective the differences in heat and humidity in training vs racing makes the race plan more challenging as the external factors that normally would limit an athlete’s ability to perform would be less of a factor here.
Nevertheless, we decided that I would pace Vargin for a sub 3:15 finish time as his training suggested it was possible.
The gun went off and 3 hours and 13 minutes later we shook hands when crossing the finish line together ✅

I’ll now fly back to Denmark for a month before heading to Cyprus for a one week training camp with some of my Credo-athletes 🔥🔥

Thank you Stathis and Vargin for a wonderful weekend and see you soon 💪
