We have a somewhat crazy suggestion for this coming Thursday, 27 November: a tasting of vermut and liqueurs...

Cecilie from the cooperative "Tres Cadires" ("Three Chairs") in Arbeca (Catalonia/Lleida) will be visiting our shop to present the cooperative's project.

We already have their vermut in our range and need your help to evaluate other products. All of them are part of Spanish and Catalan tradition. Raquel and I loved them and those moments during our 15 years in Barcelona and miss them very much!

We will be tasting:

- Vermut Caràcter
- Vermut Caràcter Reserva
- Ratafia (herbal liqueur made from green walnuts and aromatic herbs)
- Nyons / Patxaran (aniseed and sloe liqueur)
- Licor de vi de nous (walnut wine)

We will accompany the tasting with some small and simple Catalan/Spanish dishes; we are working on it. There will be roasted chestnuts, sweet potatoes, anchovies, sheep's milk cheese, turron,...

Tenim una proposta una mica boja per la propera setmana, el dijous 27/11: us proposem un tast de vermuts i licors!

La Cecilie der Tres Cadires, una cooperativa d'Arbeca, estarà al la nostra botiga i presentarà el projecte de la cooperativa i tastarem els seus productes.

De moment, el seu vermut ja el tenim al catàleg i necessitem que ens ajudeu per preparar la nostra propera comanda.

Tastarem:
- Vermut Caràcter (orgànic)
- Vermut Caràcter Reserva (orgànic)
- Ratafia (orgànic)
- Nyol (licor d'aranyons)
- Licor de vi de bous

Tots els productes han estat premiats diverses vegades

Acompanyarem el tast amb uns platets que anunciarem ben aviat.

Vermut with Spanish snacks.

Panellets recipe

500 grams of Marcona almonds
400 grams of sugar
300 grams of sweet potato
400 grams of pine nuts
1 egg white
1 egg yolk

To begin preparing homemade pine nut panellets, you will need to grind the sugar. 400 grams will be enough, but if you want them a little sweeter, you can use up to 500 grams, and if you want them less sweet, 350 grams. We do not recommend using less than 350 grams of sugar to make these panellets.

Next, grind the almonds until they are a fine powder.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Put the sweet potato in the oven. Keep in mind that depending on the size of the sweet potato and the type of oven you have, it will take more or less time. Here are the approximate cooking times according to size:

Sweet potato up to 300 grams: 40 minutes
Sweet potatoes between 300 and 500 grams: 1 hour
Sweet potatoes over 500 grams: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Allow the sweet potato to cool (neither cold nor hot), peel it, cut it and mash it.

Combine the sugar with the almonds and add the mashed sweet potato. Mix with an egg white.

Form into cylinders and roll up in cling film. Leave to rest in the fridge for a few hours.

Remove the cylinder from the fridge and cut into equal-sized portions.

Shape each portion into a ball and coat with pine nuts. This stage of the pine nut panellets recipe is the most fun and can be done with your children.

Brush the panellets with egg yolk using a pastry brush. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees for 10 minutes. Bake for 15 minutes at the same temperature (preferably in a fan oven).

You've now made top-quality homemade pine nut panellets!

Some years ago, during our summer holidays, we visited the winery Mas de Daumas Gassac and discovered their wines and their philosophy.

Now the time has come to taste them here in Berlin!

Sarah, working at the winery, will introduce a selection of the wines they produce.

Between stories and Mediterranean dishes, we will travel for a few hours to this beautiful region in the south of France thanks to its most representative wines.

With your help, we will decide which ones we find most interesting and include them in our shop's permanent range.

We had still time to visit our 2 beloved wineries in the region.
At Domaine Sarrazin Michel et fils, we collected some new boxes that will be joining our stock and we spent a day helping with the grape harvest at Domaine Guillot-Broux.

I grew up with the beautiful tradition of "fer el vermut" on weekends before lunch. When I went to live on my own, I loved to stop at a bar on my way back from shopping at the market to enjoy it.

In these years living away from home, it's a tradition that I miss a lot! That's why we have decided to organise "el día del vermut" at the every Saturday.

If you miss it too or if you want to discover this old tradition, come and join us on Saturday 6th September to have a vermut with us!
