The vineyard is changing colour. 🍇

Veraison marks the moment when grapes begin to ripen: green berries soften, deepen in colour and grow sweeter under the summer sun. A beautiful turning point, and the first hint of the wine to come.

Nature is taking its time. We’re happily watching.

What exactly is Vinatur?

Our label for wines that are closer to the source: sustainable viticulture, minimal intervention in the cellar, no unnecessary polishing, and above all: serious drinking pleasure.

Because “natural wine” can mean everything and nothing. Vinatur is our way of bringing a bit of clarity to the jungle.

Healthy vineyards. Native yeasts. Fewer corrections. More life in the glass.

Not dogma. Just wines with origin and energy.

What does “biodiversity in the vineyard” mean, and how can it be put into practice? Stephan Herter explaines how monoculture can be transformed into a vibrant array of flora and fauna, thereby creating harmony within the vineyard’s natural cycle.

Vin Mousseux „Väterchen Frost“ is on offer 20 till 22 July at Smith & Smith. Link in Stories and in Bio 🥂🫰

What Is Orange Wine, Actually?

Spoiler: no oranges involved.

Orange wine is white wine made the red wine way — grape skins stay in contact with the juice, giving it colour, texture, a little spice, and that unmistakable wild edge.

Can it be intense? Yes. Can it also be fresh, floral, and surprisingly easy to drink? Absolutely.

It loves a challenge on the table — cheese, mezze, grilled fish, spicy food. Anything that usually stumps a pairing. Orange wine shows up.

Serve slightly chilled. Stay curious. The rest takes care of itself.

Red wine in the fridge? Absolutely.

Some reds don’t want a velvet chair and a fireplace. They want 30 minutes in the fridge, a sunny table, grilled vegetables, charcuterie, pizza, or whatever survived the weekend shopping plan.

The trick: go for reds with freshness, juicy fruit, lighter structure, and not too much oak. Serve them cool, not ice-cold, and watch them wake up in the glass.

Hot days ask for cool red.

Weekend plan: open something alive.

Pet Nat is sparkling wine in its most joyful form: bottled during fermentation, a little wild, a little cloudy, full of energy. No big ceremony. No silver tray. Just cold bottles, good glasses, salty snacks, and friends who arrive “for one glass” and stay until dinner.

Vinatur Pet Nats are made for exactly this kind of weekend: fresh, fizzy, low-intervention, and seriously drinkable.

Find your weekend bubbles in the Vinatur selection.

Babiç in pure form

These pictures from the vines in Croatia show the incredible adaptability of vines to its terroir, but also the unbelievable work of those, who tend to them.

Niko Dukan and Kreso Petrekovic are two very passionate people in the wine business with a journalist background, importing croatian wine to the US and now producing their own. They are sourcing the grapes from local producers and show that Babiç can be fun, serious and complex in its pure form.

Winemaking on the edge of the vulcano

The Etna DOC unfolds across the slopes of the volcano like a crescent moon, with Randazzo to the north and Biancavilla to the south. It’s home to 133 Contrade, each a distinct subzone of historical importance.

Frank Cornelissen’s single-vineyard wines offer a window into the geological complexity of the northern Etna valley. Each cru, distinct in its character, is crafted from one of the exceptional vineyards that dot the landscape, vinified and bottled separately.

The diversity and quality of these wines are a testament to the unique terroir of this remarkable region—one that, in its depth and variety, rivals the world’s finest winegrowing areas.
