🧡 Every Child Matters. Today and Every Day. 🧡
Today marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation—a vital time for reflection, learning, and honouring the strength of Survivors, their families, and their communities.
What makes this movement so deeply inspiring is its grassroots origin right here in our region. Orange Shirt Day is rooted in the powerful story of Phyllis Webstad, a Northern Secwepemc woman from the Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation. In 1973, when she was six years old and starting her first day at St. Joseph’s Residential School in Williams Lake, BC, her excited-and-proud grandmother managed to buy her a bright, shiny new orange shirt.
Upon arrival, that brand-new shirt was stripped away from her by school staff and never returned. That moment of having her belongings and identity taken away came to symbolize the systemic stripping of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by generations of Indigenous children.
Decades later, Phyllis shared her story publicly at a reunion and commemoration event in Williams Lake. From that single courageous voice grew the national Orange Shirt Day movement and the profound truth that Every Child Matters.
Reconciliation requires more than reflection; it calls on all of us to listen, learn our shared history, and commit to meaningful action. Please wear orange today, open your heart to the truth, and stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples across the country.
To learn more or support the ongoing work of healing and education, visit the Orange Shirt Society or the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.

Christmas candy is coming to Cariboo Corner, and I’m putting our order in this Friday! 🎅🎁
I have a few ideas of things I’m thinking about bringing in, but I want to know what YOU are hoping to find! 👀🍬

🪨 Dots Coal — $4.69
🍫 Junior Mints — $6.99
