We are excited and proud to observe the beginning of summer-long restoration process of our beloved guardian Foo Dogs by Ana Diaz-Drew. A master gilder and restorer, she will start next Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. Learn and experience with us restoration and conservation of these magnificent pieces on the site.
Our welcoming Food dogs disappeared from the Garden around a year ago, but were returned. Now they are back and we want them at the Garden entrance. Our guardian lions (獅) are original Chinese artworks of the early 1960-s, traditionally are valued for their aesthetic beauty and symbolic protection of palaces and gardens. Since the pieces were returned to us with some signs of damage, such as cracks and missing pieces, Ana Diaz-Drew will restore them to their original aesthetic beauty.
The subsequent restoration sessions will be announced.

OPENING RECEPTION TODAY 2pm of “Ancient Poetry, Today’s Life!” A scientist, a social activist and an artist, Jia Tsu Thompson showcases modern recreations of ancient Chinese poetry in an exhibition that also points to a lifetime of her achievements. From making waves in biochemical genetics research to establishing the first immigrant women’s shelter in Toronto to being a founding member of the Ontario Visible Minority Women’s Coalition, this is an opportunity to meet a Chinese Canadian immigrant woman whose strong will and devotion will continue to change the lives of all Canadians.

'Great Fortune Dream' is a story of a displaced and discriminated population of Chinese migrants working to save their great fortune for a better life back in China, covering the evolving time between 1858-1966.
The book was first launched in China then translated to English and now authors Dr. David Chuenyan Lai and Ding Guo are set to launch 'Great Fortune Dream' at the Garden.

"Gold Dragon/Silver Dragon" original painting on scroll by Etsu Inoue on display in the Garden now to Aug 31st as part of our current Eastern Echoes Exhibit. Did you know all of Japanese Calligraphy Etsu Essence Inoue's art materials are natural? Pigments are made of fine sand or clay and rock - a technique that dates back thousands of years.
