Cigar of the Year in 2022 much like it's predecessor (Pledge & Encore) but unlike the latter, which are produced in the Dominican Republic at Ernesto Perez-Carrillo’s La Alianza factory, Allegiance is made in Nicaragua by Oliva Cigar Co. It’s an all-Nicaraguan blend, except for the Sumatra-seed wrapper.

We often get asked why Spanish Cedar is used in humidors and what's the reason and/or purpose for it. Below is a quick summary for you.

Spanish cedar has long been the preferred wood for humidors due to its exceptional moisture-regulating properties. Spanish Cedar absorbs and releases moisture as needed, maintaining the ideal humidity levels that ci**rs require to stay fresh and flavourful.

Beyond humidity control, Spanish cedar’s natural oils act as a deterrent to beetles, a common pest that can wreak havoc on ci**rs. Its subtle, woody aroma also enhances the aging process, allowing ci**rs to develop richer, more complex flavors over time. That’s why many premium cigar boxes include cedar dividers or linings.

Additionally, Spanish cedar offers mild resistance to mold and mildew, another key reason it’s favoured for cigar storage. This anti-fungal property, combined with its other benefits, makes it the ideal choice for maintaining and aging ci**rs.

While other woods like mahogany or oak are sometimes used, they simply don’t offer the same combination of protective and aromatic qualities that cedar does.

These rare vintage ci**rs are created by Carlos “Carlito” Fuente of Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and highly sought after by cigar aficionados and collectors.

They are released two times a year in the spring and fall, and are limited to 3000 ci**rs WORLDWIDE. 1500 released in the Spring and 1500 released in the Fall.
