Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada is not yet in a position to finalize a trade agreement with the Trump administration, despite intensified discussions between Ottawa and Washington.
Speaking on Parliament Hill Wednesday, Carney emphasized that Canada will pursue an agreement only if it serves Canadians' interests.
“We will pursue” a deal if the right opportunity arises, Carney said, but negotiators are “not in that position right now.”
The comments come just days before the U.S. midterm elections, with tariffs and the cost of living remaining major political issues.
