Come Back, we've missed you!

Thanks for being our community .... drinking coffee here, bringing friends and making friends, creating things here, laughing here, organizing here and occasionally staying much longer than you planned. We are looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Doors reopen September 8, same hours 10:30 am to 5:30pm.

WHAT MATTERS MOST TO US.

Now more than ever, we know exactly why Old's Cool exists. COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING AND IS AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO.

The last day before we closed 5 weeks ago we put out a note book for people to leave comments. The one pictured (shared with permission and transcribed below), we kept coming back to all month as a reminder for why we keep doing what we do.

When we opened, over 11 years ago, we opened with the mission to be a community hub. Where deep relationships would grow, a foundation for community care and action would be built and interesting goings on - would go on... All firmly rooted in values of justice and liberation.

We continue to hold that same vision and share this letter with you as an affirmation to all we hold dear.... Which is you. We hold you dear. We have missed seeing your faces and having heart filling conversations and we can't wait to see you again soon.

Dear Zahra and Mariko,

Your vibe, your work, your purpose and intentional response to injustice is everything. You are living advocacy — it’s a movement in East York & beyond because of your work. You are the heart of so many intersecting communities. I said to someone today in store that there is something for everyone here.

I’ve said to others that if you *love* you are welcome at Mom & Mom’s. Thank you for being this. Thank you for growing this community.

Also, thank you for taking care of you, so that the work can continue. As I write this I see someone taking food from the community cupboard — they know it’s here for them. This is the same understanding I had when Kid #2 came out. You are here for us.

Take time so you can be there for you. We will be here when you reopen. ♡

To Our Dearest Most Incredible Community Members,

Since we closed five weeks ago, I kept meaning to talk about what's going on with me...but I couldn't and I still can't the day before we re-open.

I just don't have the capacity to share about it in a way that I think would be of service to me or the community. I still need some time with it. I'm still in the midst of treatment and I don't have the words yet to share about what's going on....

But I will. Just not now. Keep being patient with us please ... As you have this last five weeks while we were getting sorted out and re-oriented to a new normal.

If there is one thing that is true right now, it's that more than ever we believe in community and community care. It's the only reason Old's Cool even exists. If it weren't for the community we love, we probably wouldn't even re-open.

For us .... it's all about community, it always has been and it always will be. We missed you and we can't wait for all the hugs, and catch up conversations and loving souls we get to see.

When the time is right, you will get the full story but for now we are just going to try to resume and get Old's Cool back up and running and get life stabilized.

We are so grateful to be part of this immensely kind community.
