People with careers in the wine world are often asked what their favourite wine is..

I know I often am.. For me there is not one.. or a grape variety, or a region.. (although there are some that excite me more than others) rather it is a quality of the wine.. (a particular tension, a dynamism) and it can come from anywhere..

Right now to satisfy the question.. I offer up ‘s 2022 Fiammetta Vermentino IGT


‘opens with aromas of pineapple, fresh green herbs and sea salt…’

Palate and finish..that’s where you’ll find it..

Founded by Fiammetta Inga in 1974, is one of Italy’s very 1st organic wineries. She was also one of the 1st adopters of the agriturismo (country/farm retreat).

The label of this wine features one of Fiammetta’s last legible signatures and the cork, the female symbol.

Joseph Justus Scaliger once speculated that the symbol was associated with Venus, goddess of beauty, because it resembles a bronze mirror with a handle, but modern scholars consider that fanciful, and the most established view is that the female and male symbols derive from contractions in Greek script of the Greek names of the planets Thouros (Mars) and Phosphoros (Venus).. But I digress.. ;)

So many things I could write here..

Re words/meanings:
Delevado means revealed..
Desvelado .. eyes wide open
Solo contigo .. only with you

Re: grapes and google
When you google merlot malbec blend… You get many titles not with blend but with the title versus or vs.. which was not the point at all - rather how they can compliment one another

Re 📦 pic: Did Logistics Manager in his thoughtful attempt to make things easy for me know he created a paper (or in this ‘case’ a cardboard) fortune teller 🔮? 🙏🏻

Life pilosophy/values: Being adventurous every day.. A way of being which seems to form the foundation of .. discovery of a newly encountered terroir which ignited a curiosity and in turn an unconscious (and so likely involuntary) commitment to discovery ..An honest sensitive curiosity without interference.. which seems to have helped them create some incredible wines, the labels aren’t bad either..
Btw there is a Canadian connection… I’ll let you read about that elsewhere… and you will if you’re ‘curious’ too.

Last but not least VOS.. the destination of these wines.. If you’re in the GTA please take a sojourn here (2 locations).. you can experience some of the best things that Argentina has to offer including Owner, Vicente D’Agata.. My goodness who also has an incredible career story..! But again if you’re adventurous enough to visit and you’re a curious creature, you can ask him yourself and I trust you’ll enjoy the listen ..

Amarone Classico della Valpolicella DOCG 2017 (dedication to their father, the heart of Benazzoli Fulvio, who is no longer with them in the 3D and yet with them in everything they do) - on cork: ‘Piccoli Passi Lunghi Cammini’ - a phrase he often expressed
