Why Taurasi Belongs in Serious Cellars

The Story of Mastroberardino

Few producers are as closely tied to the identity of a region as Mastroberardino is to Taurasi. For more than a century, the family has helped preserve the winemaking traditions of Campania while championing Aglianico as one of Italy’s truly great grapes.

At a time when many native Southern Italian varieties were disappearing, Mastroberardino remained committed to the vineyards and traditions of Irpinia. Their work not only safeguarded Taurasi’s future — it helped establish the region as one of Italy’s most serious sources of long-lived red wine.

Today, Radici remains the estate’s defining wine: a Taurasi that reflects heritage, structure, and an unmistakable sense of place.

The Wine – Radici Taurasi DOCG 2020

The 2020 Radici Taurasi is powerful without excess, opening with aromas of black cherry, dried violets, cedar, to***co, and volcanic earth. Beneath the wine’s depth is remarkable precision — the kind that only comes from old vineyards, restrained winemaking, and time.

Made entirely from Aglianico and aged carefully before release, Radici carries the structure Taurasi is known for, yet the tannins are refined and composed rather than aggressive. Layers of dark fruit, spice, leather, and mineral freshness unfold gradually across a long, persistent finish.
