Wakefield Estate Label Chardonnay 2024

Pale straw colour with a slight green hue to the edge. Delightful aromas of white peach, nectarines and subtle citrus zest join hints of cashew and cream. Fresh flavours of stone fruit combine with cashews and an underlying toastiness from the barrel fermentation to deliver a mouth-filling, enjoyable wine. It has a clean, elegant palate, a zesty acid backbone and long, persistent finish.

Rated 92, Carolyn Evans Hammond, Toronto Star, May 2026

“Glinting glossy and pale in the glass, this barrel-fermented Chardonnay begins with the fragrance of mixed citrus, toasted cashew and sea spray. The sprightly attack is brisk and vertical, but also palate-drenching and juicy without being too fruit-forward. Flavours nod toward lemon and orange zest, apricot and ripe pineapple while toasty, spicy, caramelized underpinnings score the centre and come to the fore on the finish. This is a dry, easy-to-enjoy bottle that delivers good value. If you're missing California Chardonnay, you'll find pleasure in this look-alike.”

Why Taurasi Belongs in Serious Cellars

The Story of Mastroberardino

Few producers are as closely tied to the identity of a region as Mastroberardino is to Taurasi. For more than a century, the family has helped preserve the winemaking traditions of Campania while championing Aglianico as one of Italy’s truly great grapes.

At a time when many native Southern Italian varieties were disappearing, Mastroberardino remained committed to the vineyards and traditions of Irpinia. Their work not only safeguarded Taurasi’s future — it helped establish the region as one of Italy’s most serious sources of long-lived red wine.

Today, Radici remains the estate’s defining wine: a Taurasi that reflects heritage, structure, and an unmistakable sense of place.

The Wine – Radici Taurasi DOCG 2020

The 2020 Radici Taurasi is powerful without excess, opening with aromas of black cherry, dried violets, cedar, to***co, and volcanic earth. Beneath the wine’s depth is remarkable precision — the kind that only comes from old vineyards, restrained winemaking, and time.

Made entirely from Aglianico and aged carefully before release, Radici carries the structure Taurasi is known for, yet the tannins are refined and composed rather than aggressive. Layers of dark fruit, spice, leather, and mineral freshness unfold gradually across a long, persistent finish.

This is not simply a bold Italian red. It is a wine built for aging, for the table, and for collectors who appreciate wines that evolve with patience.

A classic Taurasi from one of Italy’s most important historic estates — built to reward both patience and attention.

Discover a Valpolicella that dares to be unforgettable!

The Story of Buglioni

Buglioni began not with a business plan, but with a deep connection to place. In 1993, Alfredo Buglioni purchased a historic farmhouse in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, drawn to the beauty of the property and its surrounding vineyards planted with the region’s traditional grapes — Corvina, Corvinone, Molinara, and Rondinella.

What started as a personal passion steadily evolved into a family commitment to the wines of Valpolicella. After several years working closely alongside respected local producers and gaining a deeper understanding of the region’s winemaking traditions, the family released their first estate wines from the 2000 vintage, produced in a cellar built beneath the original farmhouse. In 2001, winemaker Diego Bertoni joined the project and continues to guide the winery’s vision today.

The turning point came with the release of Buglioni’s first Amarone in 2004. Believing deeply in the wines and their identity, the family opened Osteria del Bugiardo in Verona shortly after — creating a place where guests could experience the wines in an authentic, welcoming setting. The response was immediate.

Today, nearly thirty years later, Buglioni has grown into one of Valpolicella’s most distinctive estates, farming organically across its vineyards while producing wines that balance tradition, personality, and a genuine sense of place.

The Wine – (I'M)PERFETTO Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2022

The 2022 (I'M)PERFETTO captures everything that makes great Valpolicella so enduringly appealing. Built from the traditional blend of Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, it opens with vivid aromas of dark cherry, wild berries, dried herbs, and a subtle touch of spice.

On the palate, the wine is silky yet energetic — offering layers of ripe red fruit, soft tannins, and a freshness that keeps everything beautifully lifted.

An Elegant Discovery from Northern Burgundy

The Story of Madame V***e Point

The story of Madame V***e Point begins with ambition, resilience, and a remarkable moment in Burgundy wine history. In 1904, founder Jeanne-Marie Point brought her wines to the St. Louis World’s Fair, where her work earned the prestigious Grand Prix — an achievement that introduced the house to an international audience and established Madame V***e Point as a name associated with refinement and quality from the very beginning.

At a time when few women held prominence in winemaking, Jeanne-Marie Point built her reputation through precision, determination, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. That spirit continues to shape the estate today. Rooted in Burgundy tradition yet quietly international in outlook, Madame V***e Point has spent generations crafting wines that balance authenticity with elegance.
Now enjoyed in more than 25 countries around the world, the wines remain true to the values established over a century ago: expressive fruit, respect for terroir, and a belief that great Burgundy should feel both timeless and approachable.

The Wine – Petit Chablis 2024

The 2024 Petit Chablis is bright, lifted, and beautifully composed. Made entirely from Chardonnay, it opens with aromas of citrus blossom, green apple, and crushed stone, followed by a palate that feels vibrant yet finely textured. There’s a crispness here that feels unmistakably Chablis — refreshing acidity balanced by a gentle roundness that keeps the wine graceful rather than sharp.

What makes this bottle especially compelling is its quiet confidence. It delivers the purity and mineral tension Burgundy lovers seek, yet remains wonderfully approachable and versatile at the table. Whether paired with oysters, roast chicken, soft cheeses, or simply enjoyed chilled on its own, it carries an ease that makes every glass inviting.

The Story of Château Haut Selve

Tucked within the southern reaches of Graves, Château Haut Selve is a modern estate guided by a deep respect for Bordeaux’s enduring traditions. Established in the late 20th century by the Lesgourgues family—longtime stewards of winemaking heritage—the château reflects a thoughtful balance between innovation and restraint. Here, the vineyard is cultivated with precision and patience, allowing the natural rhythm of the land to shape each vintage. The result is a house style defined not by excess, but by clarity, structure, and a quiet confidence that reveals itself over time.

A Barolo Rooted in Legacy

The Story of Mauro Sebaste

Barolo is more than a wine for the Sebaste family — it is part of their history. Long before the region became one of Italy’s most celebrated fine wine destinations, Sylla Dogliani, known throughout the Langhe as “La Dama di Langa,” was already helping shape its future. A pioneering figure in Piedmont winemaking, she founded the family’s first winery and laid the foundations for a philosophy built on authenticity, terroir, and uncompromising quality.

After her untimely passing, Mauro Sebaste stepped away from the family business and began again on his own in 1991, driven by a singular vision: to craft wines that expressed the true character of the Langhe with precision and integrity. Together with his wife Maria Teresa — and now joined by the next generation of the family — Mauro built a winery defined by patience, meticulous vineyard selection, and deep respect for place.

Today, the estate works with prized vineyard sites across some of Barolo’s most revered communes. Each parcel is chosen for its unique exposure, soil composition, and ability to reveal Nebbiolo at its most elegant and expressive.

The Wine – Tresuri Barolo 2021

The 2021 Tresuri Barolo is a wine of remarkable poise and depth, opening with aromas of dried rose petals, dark cherry, wild herbs, and subtle notes of cedar and spice. On the palate, it unfolds gradually — layered with ripe red fruit, earthy nuance, and the silken structure that defines truly compelling Barolo.

There is power here, but it arrives with grace. Fine tannins frame the wine without overwhelming it, while a long, mineral finish lingers with quiet confidence. The 2021 vintage brings exceptional clarity and freshness, giving the wine both immediate allure and the promise of beautiful evolution over time.

This is Barolo in its most indulgent form: polished, expressive, and deeply rooted in tradition.

An Insider’s Barbera Worth Knowing

The Story of Tenuta Rocca

In the quiet folds of Piedmont’s Langhe, where vineyards trace the contours of history itself, Tenuta Rocca has quietly built its reputation on precision, patience, and respect for the land. Family-run and deeply rooted, the estate reflects a philosophy that values balance over excess, allowing each wine to speak with clarity rather than force. Here, tradition is not a constraint but a guide—shaping wines that feel both authentic and assured, with a sense of place that reveals itself gradually, sip by sip.

The Wine – Barbera D’Alba 2024

This Barbera opens with a vivid brightness—ripe red cherries, wild berries, and a subtle lift of violet—before deepening into layers of plum and a gentle touch of spice. The texture is supple yet energetic, driven by Barbera’s natural freshness, with just enough structure to give it poise. It’s a wine that feels generous without heaviness, polished without losing its charm. Every element is in quiet harmony, offering a level of refinement that feels unexpectedly elevated for its category.

Why You’ll Love It
• Remarkable depth and polish for a Barbera in this price range
• Vibrant acidity makes it endlessly food-friendly
• A refined, everyday red that never feels ordinary
