1916 GERMAN BOOK : BOELCKE β DEUTSCHLANDβS FLIEGERHELD
WW1 period book about Germanyβs great early ace, Oswald Boelcke. He was the father of early WW1 German Aviation. He originated the concept of βhunting squadronsβ (jastas) composed of single-seated fighter planes. He also recruited a number of promising pilots to whom he taught his way of fighting, which became known as the βDicta Boelcke.β His most astute βcubβ was a young Prussian cavalry officer named Manfred von Richthofen. After achieving forty confirmed victories, Boelcke was killed in a midair collision with another future PLM-winner, Erwin Boehme. Naturally, this book is in German. It was published during WW I after Boelckeβs death. Its title is Boelcke: Deutschlands Fliegerheld (Germanyβs Flying Hero). It is a paperback that measures 7 1/2β³ x 5β³ x 1/2.β The book begins with quotes from many famous Germans about Boelckeβs loss, including Kaiser Wilhelm II, Kronprinz Wilhelm, and Generalfeldmarschall von Hindenburg. Many photographs of Boelcke and his boyhood home are in the book.
