Congratulations, students! 🎉

Before we said farewell to our 138 summer students – our largest group to date – we were thrilled to surprise 10 randomly selected students with $1,000 bursaries at a summer celebration last week.

"Working with such a supportive team was the highlight of my summer," says Ainsley Meahan, a bursary winner and student with our Retail Marketing team, who returns to NBCC this fall. "There are so many opportunities to grow.”

“A safe and healthy workplace is a win for everyone.”

Matthew Olota’s passion for people is what led him to Irving Oil. After two decades in health and safety roles, he found his niche leading our Industrial Hygiene team at our Saint John refinery.

“Healthy people are productive people,” says Matthew, who joined our company in 2022. “By eliminating exposure to risks, we help protect our colleagues and communities, while supporting the quality of our products.”

From ensuring the safe handling and containment of materials to managing ergonomics and fatigue, Matthew’s work supports the well-being of our teams across operations and maintenance. No matter the initiative, the goal is the same — making the workplace safer for all.

“It’s a great feeling when you get to see the positive impact your work has on others,” he says.

As president-elect of the International Occupational Hygienist Association, Matthew takes pride in his commitment to health and safety around the globe. Thank you, Matthew, for your ongoing work.

Our hearts are with Atlantic Canadians as wildfires continue to impact so many.

To support affected communities, we have pledged a donation to the Canadian Red Cross and will also match all employee contributions.

For those on the front lines, free coffee and showers are available to all first responders at all Big Stop restaurants across Atlantic Canada.

Thank you to all first responders working tirelessly to protect our communities. 💙
