We want to acknowledge the unfathomable loss of Luke, a man who was not only a role model to our youth, but a pillar in our community, and add our voices to the call for justice. Effective immediately we are implementing a lifetime ban for everyone who was involved from Frontier Cannabis, Causeways Haida Gwaii and Howlers Private Liquor store; and urge a call to action that other businesses on Haida Gwaii do the same. It’s time we stopped accepting these actions through silence and come together as a community.

In the last few days a select minority of people online have chosen to put disgusting views of intolerance and hate, including death threats on social media towards our employees.

In a world where hate and intolerance are constantly in our faces within the media, politics, and socials we do not need more in our communities.

We want to be very clear that we have zero tolerance for all forms of racism and discrimination. Every occurrence that we come across directed towards our employees will be referred to the local authorities.

Over the past 18 months our businesses have struggled to fill the hours needed to stay open and provide our communities service from 7am to 11pm. We have hired any reliable local that has dropped off a resume - often on the spot. However, we have had to extend the job opportunities to individuals willing to move to and make a life within our community.

We ask staff relocating to the island to be respectful, and work hard to provide service for us. We are thankful to be able to stay open for the majority of people in our community who are tolerant and welcoming and look forward to serving you again soon.
